Interview with Tim Bragg

Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My album 'Authentic'. I was given guitar chords (and perhaps suggested feel) and from that I fashioned melody and lyrics. I then recorded drums/piano/ one bass track/ flute/midi sax/percussion and all the vocals.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A prog-rock album.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital. Ease.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To produce a recording to the absolute best of my ability.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Freedom.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can you do this? Yes.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: Perhaps that I'm more versatile than known.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: For the drums: how free can I be? What kind of drum sound would you like? What influences would you like? BPM (of course).
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to a full range of me playing (different styles/genres) and don't be afraid to ask for anything. Also check out my albums on Spotify.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Drum kit.Silver flute. Acoustic guitar. Piano. Congas.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: A long and winding road...for 40 years!

A: Lots and lots of feel.

A: Van Morrison - for his magical use of dynamics and feel.

A: Get the drums sounding GOOD (well tuned/the correct heads) before recording.

A: Jazz and funk.

A: Creativity.

A: Listen hard. Practice hard. Play hard.

A: My studio allows me to record acoustic and midi drums. I can also do a hybrid set up combining midi drums with acoutic cymbals.

A: There are really too many. I am still discovering amazing drummers and artists.
