Shell mixed and co-produced my latest album, Souvenir, and I can honestly say that his passion for music is off the charts. If you want someone who truly cares about sonic excellence in your corner then Shell Enns is your guy. He mixes, masters, writes, and produces, so he can help take you from square one all the way to the finish line. He'll give you intelligent, thoughtful feedback in the studio and push you to take your music to the next level. Crown Studios feels like a second home to me. If you want the full package, you just found it.

I have worked with Shell Enns on numerous projects. One thing that I can truly say about Shell is that he values the artist's perspective. His main objective is to bring the ideal sound and character that the artist wants to convey. From a mixing standpoint, Shell always strives to enhance the music by catching the natural essence of the energy, room, tone, and creativity in which each song embodies.

Love and adore Shell Enns and his ability to bring vision to life. Because of Shell, I created the album of my dreams. Just when I think we have peaked, Shell find the tweak and we peak again. An incredible producer, loyal friend, wonderful man with a skilled and sincere ear. I am forever in his debt alongside Crown Studios for continuing to provide me with the atmosphere I am grateful to pay the bill toward anytime. 5 stars and beyond.

I've worked with Shell several times since 2018. After working on my first project with him, I was sold. I wouldn't work with anyone else. I can say first hand Shell seeks to accomplish the vision of the Artist. His goal is to enhance your sound as an artist, not to change it. He is attentive and super supportive as a producer. He is professional, efficient, and just plain amazing at what he does. When I work with Shell I don't have to worry about losing my unique sound in the process.

Excellent and engaged at all times. When Shell is working with you, you have his undivided focus. He’s on your team and he wants you to succeed with everything he touches. His skill level is unquestioned but more important to me is his heart behind what he does. He is there to serve his clients and pour out all he’s got on every project. When you commission Shell Enns you’re paying for an advocate as well as a great mix engineer.

My experience with Shell from the beginning has always been very intentional and transformative. He is a guru, awesome and passionate about not only music but the quality and presentation that goes along with it. I often recommend him to my friends, especially those who need intentional and precise attention. He’s a perfectionist and he knows how to handle artists who are also perfectionists in his own unique way!

Shell is an absolute genius! I've never seen someone work so patiently to create the perfect mix! He takes the time to get to know each artist, figures out how to bring their music to life, and creates a sound that is second to none!! His record speaks for itself!

Shell and I have been working together for over a year and since working together I've gotten to see the caliber of his mixing skills. His approach is the most outside of the box yet still in the box I have ever seen. Every record we have worked on has transformed from an idea to an absolute work of art. His attention to detail and loyalty to his craft is unparalleled. The fine details always stick out in the end. I couldn't be more happy with his mixes and will continue to have him mix my music for the rest of my life, I'm not even joking.

Interview with Shell Enns

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Recently I mixed and produced on the albums "The Last Cherry Blossom" and "Plus Ultra" by Dear Silas, "Vital Signs" by Paige Dineen, "Treehouse" by Ryan Warnick and "Souvenir" by Seth Power. I love these records!

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Hybrid!

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: All of my best every time.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: When the hairs on the back of my forearm stand up while I'm mixing a new record and I know we're making a hit.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: I still have extended family members that think I'm in a wedding cover band. I don't even try to correct them anymore.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I've been in the music industry as a producer and mixer for over a decade. In the early days I did a lot of FOH mixing for arena and coliseum shows in the southeast, over the last couple of years I transitioned to full time crafting records.

  13. Q: How would you describe your style?

  14. A: I always strive to showcase the best version of the artist and their performance. We're making their record, after all!

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: When tracking vocals (or anything really), listen to how things are sounding in the room! If it doesn't sound great in the room, it probably won't translate to a great sound coming back out of the speakers.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: I really love great performances more than any specific genre. If the performance is great then we can definitely get that feeling across to the listener!

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: Make a hit

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: Analog/Digital hybrid

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: All Schmitt, Rick Rubin, Greg Wells, Dr. Dre, Mike Dean

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: Mixing!
