Arif Hodzic on SoundBetter

Producer, Songwriter and Artist that's recorded in world class studios with Rockstar legends from Hollywood, CA to the south of France.

I write songs, compose music for film and tv and am the lead singer/guitarist in the band Olio. Olio has released 6 albums on AD4 Records. Musical experiences include scoring promo commercials for the HBO series “True Blood” , writing and producing the theme song for America’s Got Talent juggling sensations The Passing Zone, and scoring the films “Searching For A Storm” and “Port Town”. I've also written songs for commercials (AAA, Bank of Hawaii, Geico), tv shows (Bachelorette, Prime Suspect and Tyra Banks Show), scored music for content (Primo, TrueCar, FlexPod, Six Senses, Napoleon@LArge) and for Matthew Modine’s film “One Last Score.”

As a songwriter: give me a topic and genre and I’ll write you a catchy song that includes lyrics and music. I also love collaborating on your song ideas to help you bring them to life. With over 20 years experience, I can fully write or help you write the music, edit and refine your lyrics or write them from scratch. Maybe you have lyrics and need the top line melody and music written. Perhaps you’ve written a song but need it refined. I’m happy to help you explore creative options and coach you along the way if you like.

I am skilled in many styles of music and specialize in pop, rock, funk. I'm a session vocalist and guitarist (electric, acoustic, slide, bass, mandolin, ukulele) and piano.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: Helping artists be the best they can be and enable them to grow as artists in the process

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: Rock (all styles) - rock and roll, pop/rock, modern rock, funk rock, hard rock, heavy metal Pop

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: Writing the music to an existing lyric. I'm also great at writing bridge sections to a song that needs it.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: I'm a big fan of the song and I encourage clients to let the song breathe and do its thing. Try not to overthink the process. The object is to keep it simple and let something unique come through showing the artist's personality.

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: I first listen to what's there and get a sense of what the client is really looking for. I offer suggestions and love the collaboration between us to get the song down first. If I'm not the final singer, I will record a scratch vocal along with the music and production ideas. Once the client approves the direction, I add other instruments and fine tune the production. I can work remotely and send tracks to the client if they are the singer for the song. If we're working with a different singer then I will produce and help guide the direction of what the client is looking for. Then I mix.

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I'm on a MAC and use Logic Pro X. I have a lot of great sounds (strings, orchestral, etc) in the box as well as analog (acoustic and electric guitars, bass, mandolins, ukulele, vocals, drums).

  15. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  16. A: I've worked with Eddie Kramer (Led Zeppelin/David Bowie/Kiss), Joe Solo (Macy Gray/Michael Jackson) and Ross Hogarth (John Mellencamp/Keb'Mo'/Van Halen) as an artist. They're fantastic to learn from. They take their work seriously and know how to have fun and bring out the best in an artist.

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: I'm a song doctor. I help clients with lyrics, melodies and all the music if needed. My job is to help bring the client/artist's vision and voice forward and help refine their process.
