Interview with Cory Hale Williams

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I’ve gotten to make some sample packs with a drum hero of mine, Darren King from MUTEMATH. We both contributed a lot of drum and synth to the projects!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A lot of my own recordings. I’ve been doing a lot of synth and guitar work for some other producers in Nashville as well.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Not yet but I just got here!

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I prefer to do things in the box so they are easy to change and recall!

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Get your tracks right at the recording stage rather than fixing mistakes later! It’s a lot easier this way and brings about the best results in my opinion.

  11. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  12. A: I have played on a lot of folk / indie rock tracks recently but I can adapt and play some heavier things if needed.

  13. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  14. A: Adaptability. I do my best to give the client what they’re looking for.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: I bring musicality and pocket. I like to keep my grooves locked in while providing a human feel that supports the song / arrangement

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: I listen carefully through the client’s rough mix and any references they send me. After that I create an arrangement in Logic Pro and start tracking!

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: Drums - Rogers, Slingerland, Gretsch Cymbals - Istanbul, Zildjian Mics - SE Kick, SE Toms, SM7B Snare Top, Crotch Mic, 2 Tube Condenser Overheads Interface - Apollo UAD, Focusrite Scarlett 8pre

  21. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  22. A: Darren King / Will Sayles / Bryson Nelson / Carter Mclean / Ben Satterlee

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: I provide quality drum tracks that fit the client’s song! I love getting the right tones and textures that support your music.
