I have been working with Dave and Paul @ The Record Label for one year now and they have produced two great tracks for me. I knew I wanted a new direction for my music and they have been able to work with my ideas and build a new musical style, as well as provide support and guidance.
In a friendly studio environment and with a professional approach, I have been able to create music that defines who I am as an artist. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to take their music career to the next level.

Had an amazing time working on a couple of tracks with these guys last summer. I have spent a lot of time in studios over the years and The Recording Studio is the most productive & creative environment I have ever worked in. Highly recommended.

I absolutely love working with these guys. They are by far the most professional, talented, fun and fair studio I have EVER worked with. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them to anyone. They are incredibly versatile and have brought out the very best in me as a singer and as a writer. You won't want to work with anyone else after working with them, they are 100% amazing!

I worked with the guys at The Record Label on my first solo single and I was blown away by their professionalism. It was an absolute pleasure so much so that I’m now getting ready to record my album with them. Definitely highly recommend them!

Interview with Paul Visser

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: We co-produced and co-wrote 'Lost In You' by Petula Clark in 2013. It reached number 24 in the UK album chart and got playlisted on Radio 2. She was over 80 at the time!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Several brilliant independent artists, as well as music for Masterchef

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both. They're different, but one is not better than the other. We track through lots of analogue outboard for colour, and mix mainly in the box for flexibility.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: To help make the music that truly defines them as an artist.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Getting to help people create the things they've only imagined.

  11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  12. A: How do I get signed? The answer is always the same - make music you love!

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That it's cool! We're all geeky nerds.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: We ask them what they love about their music and who their influences are to try and understand them at a deep level.

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Always ask whether you feel that this is someone who really understands your music. Everything has to be driven by passion. Music is about having fun and creative something incredible.

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: Wait - how are they powered? RIDICULOUS. But probably 5 different compressors - you can never have too many :-)

  21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  22. A: The three studio directors Paul Visser, Joe Barboza and Dave Ferguson have been working together in bands and as producers for nearly a decade, and started The Recording Studio London and its sister company The Record Label in 2014. Paul, the head engineer, started recording at the age of 10 in his father's studio, and hasn't stopped since.

  23. Q: How would you describe your style?

  24. A: Punchy, full, weighty and all about the vocal

  25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  26. A: It would be incredible to work with a huge rock band like Foo Fighters. Recording amazing musicians is always a joy.

  27. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  28. A: It's all about the detail

  29. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  30. A: Pop, Rock, Metal, EDM, Hip-Hop, Acoustic, R+B, Film

  31. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  32. A: Understanding the needs of creative clients and delivering incredible results every single time.

  33. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  34. A: Great ears, and the skills to realise potential!

  35. Q: What's your typical work process?

  36. A: When producing we like to delve into what makes an artist tick - finding the heart of what makes their music great and helping them create the best possible version of it. We also play a huge range of instruments and can program unique arrangements for any style. When working on editing, mixing and mastering, it's our fastidious eye for detail and dedication to excellence that sets us apart.

  37. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  38. A: Our London studio has a great control room centered around a DDA console from the late 1980s. We have great monitoring and converters, with a huge range of carefully selected audio tools (both hardware and software) and great mics. We also have a large live room, perfect for tracking awesome drum sounds.

  39. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  40. A: We love a huge range of music. One of our main passions is heavy rock music so the productions of people like Chris Lord Alge and Adam Nolly Getgood are very inspirational. In terms of pop, Max Martin is a huge icon, and we also love the rootsy, authentic tones captured by Jaquire King.

  41. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  42. A: We work with a huge range of artists and clients, primarily providing top-quality Writing, Production, Recording, Mixing and Mastering. We specialise in Pop, Rock, Hip-Hop and EDM, but work in every genre under the sun! We also do a lot of compositional work for Film and TV, with over 400 tracks placed on shows like Masterchef, Hollyoaks, A Place In The Sun and Made In Chelsea. We also provide Voiceover services, with an ADR system and a great network of voice talent.
