Interview with Dee-H

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I am currently working on some uptempo R&B/Pop tracks. Along the lines of a Bruno Mars / Justin Timberlake track.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: Digital, because it allows for endless possibilities.

  5. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  6. A: When it comes to songwriting it is difficult to make promises. If I could make any promise, it would be that I am going to deliver a professionally written song for a very affordable fee when compared to industry standard rates.

  7. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  8. A: I love the process of writing songs. I really enjoy hearing my clients concepts and delivering them a piece of art they are supremely happy with. Nothing is better than a satisfied customer.

  9. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  10. A: That it's easy. Ha Ha It is not easy at all.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: I like to find out from my prospective clients what the concept of the project is. I like to know the origins of the project. My goal is to do my best at getting emotionally attached to the project as much as my client is, so I can deliver very touching lyrics. I also want to find out if the client has an idea of the melody and tempo they prefer for the song. If there is a beat they already have in mind, and if so, I would want to have the beat available while I am writing the song.

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: I would advise them to ask questions and determine if they think the provider will be easy to work with and open to following strict directions if that is the project, but also have the ability to create something creative for the client if their project scope is loose.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: A Tarp A Lighter A Backpack A Snuggie A Knife

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I have been writing for over 20 years. I have poems published nationally which is where my art and passion for writing started.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: I would describe my style as a cross between Bruno Mars, Usher & John Legend. I have a very wide and unique range.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: I like working with uptempo R&B artist and Pop/Hip Hop artist because the range for creativity is huge. I also like working with artist who allow me a wide range of creative freedom.

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: I typically work with R&B, Pop, NEO-Soul and Hip Hop.

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: My strongest skill is providing songs based on specific melodies and tempos requested by the client. I am also easy to work with and I bring creative ideas to the table for the client too.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: I bring creativity. My writing comes with a lot of emotion and passion. I also like to write songs that can have multiple meanings which allows the song to really optimize its potential audience reach.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: I typically get my concept from my client. After my client gives me their concept and type of melody they prefer I will start to develop different ideas for them. After I present a couple ideas, my client will select one and then I will start to produce the lyrics for the song. After it is completed I deliver it to my client and give them the ability to have a revision done.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: I am a writer, so I spend my studio time with producers in their studios.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: I am inspired by Michael Jackson, Prince, The Weekend, Khalid, Maxwell, Babyface, Sam Smith, John Legend and Usher.

  35. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  36. A: The main thing I do for my clients is write their music lyrics. I write a lot of music based off my clients per a conceptual idea they have in their head.
