I'm David Wehinm, nice to meet you. I'm a touring sound engineer and a music producer. I've worked within the music industry for close to 15 years, in various capacities, both on the creative and the business ends. Today, my main motivation is to spend time helping artists to be creative and productive in music.

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: A couple of UK Jazz albums. No live music at the moment unfortunately, for obvious reasons

  3. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  4. A: Do before you think. Think before you do

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: A range. Uk Jazz, Hip-Hop and RnB, Afrobeats, Gospel, Pop

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: Listen, see the vision, then use the tools necessary to achieve the goal.

  9. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  10. A: I run a local rig and a remote rig for location work, both Apple based. I work with Logic Pro 9 / Logic X and Pro Tools 10 / 11, as well as Reason and Ableton. I use Komplete 9 and Maschine 2 for Midi programming.

  11. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  12. A: Fela Kuti, Dave Pensado, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Michael Jackson, Lauren Hill, Fred Hammond, Tina Turner, Bruce Swedien. Many others...

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: "... can you make it sound like <current hot artist>?" "... I could, but I'd rather make it sound like you"

  18. A: Zoom H6, a laptop, an acoustic guitar, a set of headphones and...

  20. A: Organic

  24. A: Digitally controlled analog. The best of both worlds.

  26. A: To try and be as true to their original vision as possible

  28. A: The variety

  29. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  30. A: That its easy. Conversely, that its not.

  31. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  32. A: Go with whoever believes in your project. If it feels like they just want your money, they probably do.

  33. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  34. A: I started making beats at a young age. I progressed to recording vocalists, then to Live and Studio mixing. I have a degree in Electronic Engineering so at times

  35. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  36. A: Prince. He seems to be artistically unrestrained.

  38. A: Honestly, passion, drive.

  39. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  40. A: Studio Recording, Editing and Mixing. I also do Live engineering and I do a lot of acoustic session work
