Brian Leonard on SoundBetter

I currently work at FUNimation as a professional ADR engineer. I have been in the music business for 8 years, working with bands, and artists; writing, recording, and mixing. My goal is to use Soundbetter to offer my mixing services at a great price to music lovers such as myself.

With a certification in audio engineering from Media Tech institute and previously worked with radio stations, live venues and local studios, I have been concentrating on mixing and recording for the past 3 years of my music career, and want to offer my services to help artists and bands find the perfect sound for their project!!

Interview with Brian Leonard

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: I love working with music, mainly because it doesn't feel like work at all to me. I can spend 12 hours a day creating, recording or mixing, and be excited to get up the next day and do the same thing!

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What is sonic quality that YOU want out of the song you want me to mix. Give me examples of songs where you like the mix.

  5. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  6. A: I have been working with bands either creating, recording, or mixing for about 7 years. I received my Audio certification a year ago from Media Tech, and since have worked with a few local studios. I am moving to Austin TX in a few months to pursue job leads at few big studios down there.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: The genres I work with most is probably Rock, Hip Hop, and Singer Song Writer.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: Usually when I first get a session I upload all the tracks and begin sorting, naming, and color coding the tracks to my liking. If editing is necessary for the song I then begin that process, doing whatever is needed for the specific track. I then start mixing either with the beat of the track, or drums if I'm working with a band. I then move on to the bass, and guitars. Then finish with mixing the vocals. If I am mastering song, I then tend to walk away from it for 30 mins-1 hour to give my ears a rest, to prevent fatigue.

  11. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  12. A: I promise to delivery quality work, to the best of my ability, every single time.
