Good Karma Music on SoundBetter

Producer/engineer taking your tracks to the next level. I work with small unknown artists, developing them from singer songwriters into fully fledged recording artists with million+ streams. I do production, sound design, and mixing. Taking your track from the demo stage to a release ready piece of art.

Here's a quick breakdown of the services I offer:
Songwriting, Song Arrangement
Session Recording (Programmed Drums, Bass, Guitar, Keys, Synths)
Mixing

I usually take artists from a bare bones idea, say acoustic/vocal or keys/vocal and build it into a fully fledged track with drums, keys, guitars, whatever the song needs. This process almost always usually includes me mixing the final track.

I'm happy to pick up your project at whatever stage it's at, be it a rough idea of a 'nearly there' demo track that needs polishing up.

I've released tracks with multiple artists and many have gone to have very successful releases and began working with record labels on the back of the songs I've worked on with them.

Interview with Good Karma Music

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I loved working on the track Sea of Sound by IsaacO. I found him by chance and really pushed to do a track with him. We all really embraced the song for the style it was going for which was very vibey and relaxed. It seems his fans were into it too!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: A personal project and working with an up and coming artist

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Hilton grove mastering. I always go to them for mastering and they've never let me down.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Digital mostly. The flexibility is unrivalled and emulation is so good now. The odd piece of analog gear can be nice from time to time.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: That I'll work my hardest to guide you and get you the sound that you want. Not what I want.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The freedom to play and experiment.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: How long will this take? Answer: Well I can get back to you with something in X days (less for small projects, more for big ones). What we do after that point is almost impossible to tell! Most importantly we'll go until it's right.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That I can go away after a 10 minute conversation and make the song of your dreams from a 2 track demo. Music is best when it's a collaboration, I love providing ideas but I love it just as much if the artist provides guidance in the things they are are loving and not loving.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: Influences. What do you want to sound like? Who do you want to sound like? Most importantly, why do you want that sound?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Be ready to communicate, I'm always happy to work with you in whatever direction you want to go. As long as I've got a direction to go in I'll keep giving you results

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Powerful Laptop Sony WH-1000XM4 Focusrite Clarett interface (any decent clean interface really) My Stratocaster Midi Keyboard If I could get away without an interface I'd also take an SM7b!

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I've been writing/producing/mixing music for about 10 years. I really got into working with other people about 5 years ago and I've release tracks from multiple artists. Some have done really well. I'm hoping to work with more artists and continue to help them make better music.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Chaotic at first, throw loads of ideas around, and slowly hone it in and tighten it up until I've distilled a track to it's best elements. Sonically I like to walk the line between real instruments and synthesizers, often mixing sections of both in a track to move between a more live vibe and a tight catchy one.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I get the biggest reward out of taking an artist that is at one place in their career, releasing a few songs with them and then seeing them move up that ladder, a step further along. For me that transition is far more important than any artist in particular!

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: If you want to spice up a drum track, find a sample loop that has a sound that fits nicely with your track, then slice it all up and make a new rhythm that is perfect for you song. So you get the cool sounds from the loop, inspiration from it's rhythm, while also tailoring it to be unique to you and your song.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Pop/Dance Pop Indie Pop Rock/Alternative Boom Bap

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I listen to songs and identify what makes it work. So instead of doing 'my thing' on a track, I'm doing the thing that makes the track work best, this gets the best out of the both the artists and songs I work with!

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Broad instrumental skills; I program drums very well and can get both unique and very modern percussion elements, I've played with a broad range of feels and styles so I can achieve a strong feel rhythmically. I play keys and guitar and so can fill a broad range of gaps sonically in whichever style the artist is going for. I work hard on sound design so I can get some fairly unique sounds going that set tracks apart, I'm very well versed in VST synths so getting particular sounds isn't a problem. I also have a mixing background so I know how to make a track work sonically to achieve a great end result. Overall I have a broad experience in producing and mixing full songs so you can trust me to put in the care and effort at every stage of the process.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Once I receive a track I'll usually listen through a couple times and pick out the 'best' parts, the parts that really sing to me. I'll also note down any random ideas that initially pop into my head along with any 'problem areas' that aren't working quite right. Then I'll talk with the artist to see what they think about my thoughts, and from there I'll start to put down some basic instrumentation, usually a rhymical element, the main chordal instrument that pulls the track together and pop in any of those random ideas I had initially. Then it's about working closely with the artist to really pull the track together in the direction they want. This process can take anywhere from a week to a couple months depending on their and my schedule. Once we have the track 95% of the way there I'll take some time to just fine comb clean everything up and if at the end there are no objections we discuss steps for mixing the track.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: Speakers/Headphones: Yamaha HS7, AKG K-271, Sony WH-1000XM4 Interface Clarett+ 4 Mics: SM7b, Slate ML-1, sE Electronics, SM57s DAW: Reaper VST Synths: Serum, Arturia V Collection Sample Libraries: Kontakt Scarbee Bass, Session Strings

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Ian Kirkpatrick, Benny Blanco, Jake Gosling, Anderson .Paak

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: I help artists take their tracks from single instrument/vocal pieces to fully produced pieces. I also write beats and work with artists to turn them into completed tracks.
