Ezequiel Ferraro on SoundBetter

I've been playing drums over 20+ years; I work as session musician since 10+ years, and I'm ready to find that unique feature on your music and make it shine

Hi! I’m Ezequiel and i'm a professional drummer.
I've been playing and studying drums since 1999. Since 2012 I've worked as session drummer with multiple bands and musicians, and from 2016 to the present I've been specializing my studies in jazz music and it's branches.

Musicians choose me because I put my best in what I do, and do it with passion. I also work with a group of people dedicated to producing music (from composition and arrangement, to instrument/vocals recording, mixing and mastering), that can provide you.

Ezequiel did a great job getting the feel I was looking for. He delivered several stems, which gave me more than enough to work with. Turnaround in less than a week. Very professional. Would work with Ezequiel again.

Ezequiel understood the assignment, and delivered amazing drum samples for me in the style I needed. He also gave me lots of edits/changes, and many takes to choose from. 10/10, would work with again, thanks :)

I have worked with Ezequiel on different platforms and formats (solo drums, full band, studio and live recording, etc) and he always nailed it.
And I'll work with him again. No doubts.

Interview with Ezequiel Ferraro

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm working on the arrangements and production of my band's album. It's based on the music I listened to as a child. It's all music from Argentine folk composers, but arranged in a jazzy/improvised way. The basic idea is to try to merge two musical languages that seem so distant and make them dialogue and coexist.

  3. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  4. A: I love to make other people's music work. I really enjoy the process of finding the essential aspect on other's music and pushing myself and my playing to bring that out.

  5. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  6. A: The drums have so many parts, this is a difficult one! I assume I could take my cellphone, some kind of USB condenser, my snare, my bass drum and probably my ride.

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: I've been playing and studying drums since 1999. Since 2012 I've worked as session drummer with multiple bands and musicians, and from 2016 to the present I've been specializing my studies in jazz music and it's branches.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: I always try to have a relaxed sound but crisp at the same time. I love looking for the point where the things sound loose but precise and accurate at the same time.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I would love to work with Brian Blade. I'm a big fan of his playing and creativity and I feel it would be very enriching to share some time with him making music. He's such a producer, further than drummer. It would be amazing.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Most of my jobs are in a jazz style music or any of it's branches, because it's the style that I studied and played more, and I think it's part of my sound at this point.

  15. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  16. A: My strong point is the composition and recording of drum lines over previously written/recorded music. I love the process of finding the essential aspect on other people's music and pushing myself to bring that out.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: It depends a lot on the project that I'm working, but normally I receive the order from the client and then I take a very deep listen on the song over and over again to get used to the feel, the melody, chords and mostly the different parts on the music. After that, I start to make some takes trying some variations between each other, so when I finish I listen what I played and choose between the takes that I feel works better with the song. After that I record a final version having in mind everything I tried before and when I'm happy with the result I send it to the client. If the client is happy that's it; if it's not, I restart the process considering the client's feedback.

  19. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  20. A: My typical setup to record is: - Cymbals: AKG C214 Stereo Pair - Snare drum: 2x Shure SM57 (One on the top drumhead, one on the snare side) - Rack & Floor toms: Shure SM57 - Bass Drum: AKG D110 I usually change my setup a bit depending on the project I'm recording, but that's the most common disposition of microphones I use.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: The most common request I get from my clients is to compose and record drum lines over their music, and it's the part of music I enjoy the most because I love having to adapt my playing and myself to fit perfectly into the other people's music.
