Interview with Robert White

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I wrote a song for Jody Watley “Your love keeps working on me” that I got a billboard award for with John Barnes and Joey Diggs and I also signed Floetry to Dreamworks Records, Produced a Remixed for the song “Say Yes” that went to #2 on the billboard R&B chats with Greg Phillinganes.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently working on my own project now and also pitching songs to other artists and films.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: N/A

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: I love them both. Digital is cleaner however you can add different plug ins like saturation to beef up the character of the sound. Now Analog is a whole nother animal, it’s just warm and big right out of the gate with a little nice noise.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: That I was bring my A game. I will put my heart and soul in every project that I work on, it a spiritual thing to me.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I love making music, it’s like creating magic for me.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can I create a record like this or that and usually my response is yes. If it has been done once before you don’t have reinvent the will.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That making music is easy, there are so many possibilities and you have to narrow it down to one. The right one!

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: What exactly are you looking for and what’s your turnaround time.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Make sure you fine the right person to execute your vision.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A MacBook Pro, UAD interface, Neumann Microphone,Native Instruments Maschine and a hard drive.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I started off as a songwriter for Interscope Music Publishing, Warner Chappell and Universal music group. I was signed by Jimmy Iovine and John Mc Clain. I then went on to be a Publisher and A&R guy at Dreamworks Publishing and Records in Beverly Hill California and worked with a lot of great artists on the business side.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Soulful.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I would love to work Celine Dion because she has an incredible voice. I have already worked with Michael Jackson, Floetry, R Kelly, Ron Isley, Burt Bacharach, Metallica and Swizzbeatz to name a few.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Melody is king!!

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: R&B, Pop, Rap, and Rock.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Singing and overall music production.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Great lyrics and melodies and also tracks.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: I normally start building my songs in Logic Pro X.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I use a Mac computer, Logic Pro X, Pro tools, Apogee and UAD interface with Waves, UAD Plugins and the Sure sm7A Microphone. I also use Native Instruments and Maschine as well as other vst software.

  42. A: Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, R Kelly, Justin Timberlake, Max Martin, The Weekend, Usher, TI, Burt Bacharach And Prince.

  44. A: I’m a Singer, Songwriter, Producer, Drums and Keyboardists Programmers.
