Jen Friend on SoundBetter

Hi, I'm Jen Friend, a singer, songwriter, and background vocalist from Nashville. I've worked with artists such as Charlie Daniels, Tiffany, and LeAnn Rimes. I've been fortunate enough to tour all over the world and work with a lot of incredible musicians in the studio and on the stage.

I've been a professional singer, songwriter and performer for over 20 years working in various genres from Rock, Country, and Blues to R&B. When I'm not on the stage I love working in studio sessions doing both lead vocals as well as backing vocals. My voice has been compared to artists such as Adele, Miranda Lambert, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin, and Patsy Cline however I've made demos for songwriters that range in styles from Taylor Swift to Pink, Faith Hill to Maren Morris.
I've written 3 albums, and recorded sound tracks for movies, commercials and television. I have also been featured in a documentary called Send My Mail To Nashville and appeared on Good Morning America, The Voice and The View.
I'd love to work on your project. Let me know what style your going for and we will make it happen!!

Send me a note through the contact button above.

I worked with Jen on a project and she emobied the message of the song with her strong and soulful. Taking a song that she didn't write and owned it as if is came from her. She is hands down one of the best singers on Soundbetter.

If you're wanting to make your project shine with vocals that punch you in the face with realism and truth then hit her up asap!

Interview with Jen Friend

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I was hired to sing harmonies on a project and when I was done they asked me to come in the following day to cut more harmonies but this time in Spanish. The fun part is I don't speak Spanish. It was truly an amazing experience that I will never forget.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Kris Bradley is definitely one of my favorite artists on SoundBetter. Her talents and ear for music is incredible.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Both. Analog has a quality you can't beat and digital has virtually unlimited options.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: My promise is to give my clients the very best of my abilities.

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: I love being able to help people create their vision.

  11. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  12. A: Is there a song or an artist that inspired your tune? Would you like extra adlibs to play with in the stems?

  13. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  14. A: I wil do everything in my power to deliver the vocals you are looking for and giving honest feedback will help me achieve that.

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: It might be a little simple but I would take a pen, my notebook, my guitar, and a capo.

  17. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  18. A: I have been a singer for almost 30 years and a songwriter for nearly 20 years. My career path has taken me to some incredible places and as long as I can sing I will follow where it leads me.

  19. Q: How would you describe your style?

  20. A: Although I have been hired to sing various genres, I would describe my style as a mesh of blues, rock and soul.

  21. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  22. A: One artist I would absolutely love to work with would be Carol King because she's an incredible songwriter who still has such a passion for music and it shows in every note.

  23. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  24. A: Most clients I work with ask for more soulful raspy sounds especially when it comes to backing vocals but honestly, I'm all over the map.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: The style of music I get called to do for most sessions is blues and rock.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: My strongest skill would have to be flipping genres. I'm usually pretty flexible when changing styles.

  29. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  30. A: I've been told I give songs raw emotion and soul.

  31. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  32. A: I'm working with an Apogee Duet 2 Interface and an Aston Condenser Mic.

  33. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  34. A: I really enjoy listening to a variety of music but I can always find inspiration a good Beth Hart album.
