Interview with Redvard Dolański

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: I'll say both but to implement an analog vibe with all the benefits of modern day workflow.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: My 7 string, good old SM7B, interface and a PC with shit ton of plugins. I don't need the 5th piece haha.

  5. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  6. A: Oh boy there's a lot of them!

  7. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  8. A: I try to bring out and develop as much character of the artist as possible. I'm here just to use my skills to compliment that and build upon it. But I treat EVERY project very personal and the overall result and its uniqueness is all that matters for me.

  9. Q: What's your typical work process?

  10. A: Really depends on what the client provides me with. Sometimes I get nothing, only references so I need to start from scratch. Other times I get the vocal line and I write for it. As I get the raw sketch I start to search for sounds that will make the song unique and will compliment the composition. And that's true either for producing or mixing. Then it's all a matter of refining and cutting down to get the purest results.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I work from home so I have my little corner with all the gear necessary. Also I invested a lot of time and research to make it an optimal listening environment.

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: Haha there's a lot of them. But I gotta say those who try to do things differently and unconventionally.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: It's not finished until you're happy!

  17. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  18. A: To work on things I always wanted to do but never had the opportunity.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Always look for a person that has a deep understanding of what you are trying to achieve, who will resonate with the idea you have in mind. That way you can expect great things to happen.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: It's really hard to say because the stuff I do is so diverse. If I was to bet on one direction I would say something between Mick Gordon's Doom 2016 OST (which should be a separate genre btw) and some really proggy stuff like Karnivool for example.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Sometimes less is more!

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: Mostly heavy, modern metal/djent stuff. That also includes some more comercial oriented productions.

  27. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  28. A: Being able to adapt, and always choosing to do what's best for the song. I don't take stuff personally. Once I start working, the song is all that matters.

  29. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  30. A: I have been recording and making music pretty much since I picked up the guitar some 20 year ago. Since then I never stopped developing but it always remained a side hustle. I've played in many bands, also in some bigger ones and I always used my production skills so we could have the best material possible. That also helped me develop further, refining my skills in the studio. But working as a touring musician still wasn't something that would let me ditch my dayjob/ When the pandemic hit in 2020 I finally decided to resign from my current job and started my services on Fiverr where I'm still very successful. Since then I've worked on a ton of music, different styles. But one thing hasn't changed. I still treat every project like my own.

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: I mostly write and produce but mixing is also a huge deal.
