Emilia gave a quick turnaround and was happy to do the revisions I asked for. I am very pleased with the recordings of my songs and would work with her again.

    Interview with Emilia Inés Vega

    1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

    2. A: I am working on the Gala Magalí album as a mixing technician, and on the Evelyn Testai album as co-producer and instrumentalist. I am also working with the singer Mi Luna and the singer Gina Pegnotti on their singles. My personal projects are my electronic music band Lara Modena and my solo project, instrumental music.

    3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

    4. A: Yes. I would recommend Candela Cibrián. she is a singer and producer from my country and I have taken classes with her. she is excellent.

    5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

    6. A: I'm not worried about analog or digital. the means of production are not the most important, but the music and having something important to communicate in artistic creation.

    7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

    8. A: my promise to clients is that they can make as many revisions as they want until they are satisfied. I don't like to leave anyone unsatisfied with a job that wasn't fully executed. I like to work hard.

    9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

    10. A: What I like most about my work as a producer is connecting artistically with diverse people and living the beautiful experience of finding beauty in other people's music as I play it. I also really like the independence and the possibility of making decisions working in a group and doing everything in the most efficient way possible.

    11. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

    12. A: the most frequently asked question is how long does it take to complete the job. it usually takes me a week, unless I have a full production run. The second thing they ask me the most is if I need sheet music. that depends on the complexity of the music, but I'm very good at transcribing and playing by ear, so I don't need to have the sheet music.

    13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

    14. A: the biggest misconception people have about my work is that you can't make a living from music. In Latin America, salaries are low and we musicians don't have social security. thanks to work platforms like this we can generate better income.

    15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

    16. A: I ask them what their technical specifications are for sample rate and bit depth, and the format they want the recording in. I also request references to understand the style of music they are looking for. I like to know more about them as a person and how they relate to music, what they play.

    17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

    18. A: My advice is to find someone sensitive with the ability to listen carefully to requests and be flexible.

    19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

    20. A: I would bring a flute, a drum, a kalimba, a mouth harp, and a tambourine.

    21. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

    22. A: I started studying music at the age of five when I was taking recorder classes. then at the age of six I started playing the piano, and have studied ever since. At eighteen I started playing the accordion. and now, at the age of twenty-four, I have finished my university studies as a music teacher with a specialty in piano. My training was eclectic: I studied and played a lot of traditional Latin American popular music in bands and orchestras. i also studied four years of classical academic repertoire, i played beethoven, bach, mozart, chopin, schubert, debussy and others. I currently dedicate myself to composition and continue to professionalize myself, studying music production courses.

    23. Q: How would you describe your style?

    24. A: my style can be energetic and lively, but on the other hand somber or meditative. I like to produce music that draws attention to detailed listening.

    25. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

    26. A: I would like to work with bjork because he has incredible staging and orchestrations that combine acoustic and orchestral with electronic.

    27. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

    28. A: The last year I've worked with Cecilia Gauna which is an argentinian singer and songwriter. She proposed me to produce 4 songs, inspired on the four seasons. The lyrics were very poetic and fantastic, so I took flight right off and made the instrumental backing tracks with electronic drums, pianos, synthetisers and samples of her own voice in Ableton Live. then to add a bit of liveness I arranged parts of Oboe and Clarinet. The duet of wind instruments gave the 4 songs unity and spirit. Then we produced all the vocal arrangements, and in one song I wrote a 4 voices choral arrangement!! Then we recorded on studio the oboe, clarinet and vocals. The result was very unique and original, with a solid and cohesive sound desing in all songs, that was delightful, playful and surprising by the excentric combinations of instruments. The 4 songs are: El Verano Tros Tros, El Patriarca del Otoño, Los Zorros y El Invierno, La Prima Vera. You can listen them all in Youtube and Spotify.

    29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

    30. A: My tip is have very good references of music that already sounds great. Don't get your ears overloaded listening too much to demos and works in progress because you'll end liking more the unfinished work. If I have to produce a whole song I always try to listen only the necessary and have rest periods in between the production sessions to keep the mental clarity and objetibity, that helps me to make better production desitions.

    31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

    32. A: On Soundbetter I worked a lot as session musician, playing over a track already produced, where I have to make my own arrangement and record myself. Also I usually work in singer-songwriter projects, where the composer brings me the initial idea (melody and lyrics) and I have to find the harmony, the right style, make arrengements and produce the whole project including recording and mixing.

    33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

    34. A: My strongest skill is making arrangements, i like to scan the song and search what the music needs to feel right and complete. I like to make analysis and I have many tools, theory and experience playing diverse styles.

    35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

    36. A: I bring the freshness and life to the interpretation, with emotional melodies, and arrangements to keep the listener attention engaged.

    37. Q: What's your typical work process?

    38. A: First I listen carefully to the demos or tracks that the client has sent me. I like to have a couple of references to other tracks that my client likes. Then I make a brief analysis of the characteristics of the music, to set the tempo, key, form and structure, style, arrangements. When I start recording I prefer to go section by section and make three or four takes on each one, to get it right before going on. I like to work deeply and I'm picky to details.

    39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

    40. A: My Home Studio is prepared for recording acoustic piano, accordion and vocals. I have a pair of beautiful studio monitors for mixing and mastering. I've treated the room preventing early reflections and the sound of my room is warm and woody.

    41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

    42. A: Pauline Oliveros, Mark Ronson, Gustavo Cerati, Madonna, Yann Tiersen

    43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

    44. A: I often make accordion backing tracks arranged in different styles (all kinds of Traditional Music from America and Europa).
