I specialize in mixing rock and indie music that hits hard, feels alive, and connects with listeners. Groove, dynamics, and atmosphere! Inspired by the warmth and character of 70’s tones and vibes, I blend vintage soul with modern punch, helping artists translate their vision into mixes that stand out.

Interview with Matt Duarte
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I'm currently finishing an EP for a Brazilian rock artist called Daniel Mazzochi. The vibe is something between Rival Sons and Led Zeppelin. I wrote some of the songs, produced and mixed.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Mastering - Fili Filizzola
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Both. Analog is an experience. It's a sound that "happened" at a specific time and space and cannot be recreated. Digital on the other hand, means complete freedom to manipulate that sound and create new possibilities.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll strive to match the client's vision for the song, so I can take it some notches up.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Being creative with sound. To create a sonic atmosphere that sounds original and interesting is always my main goal.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Choose based on their style, making sure they understand your musical language.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a professional musician in Brasil back in 1996. Playing bass, guitar and from 2000 on leading a band where I began writing and releasing music. That's also when I started producing. In 2007 I moved to New York to work with the Brazilian singer Reah Valente. I worked as music producer, co-writer and touring guitarist. That's when I started introducing myself as a music producer. Back in Brazil I continued studying audio and production and became the in house producer for Nico's Studio, where I grew a decent discography over the years and earned my spot as a voting member of the Latin Recording Academy (Latin Grammy Awards) in 2013. Life brought me to the US once again in 2015 and since then I released 4 albums, a string of singles, and many collaborations. I also mixed singles for different artists both in the US and Brazil.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Find that detail that stands out in the song and make it even more evident. Make even more special.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Rock, Indie and lofi.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I try to find out what the song wants to bring and then make it more evident.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: While producing, I've been described as "that producer who 'joins the band'". I truly get involved to the point of understanding the truth of the artist. That way we actually share the vision we're bringing to life. While recording, I prefer to commit to the sound and track the instrument as close to the intended final result as possible. That way we're able to create something unique, that won't be easily replicated with plugins. I like recording guitars with effects whenever possible, for example. While editing, I see the process as part of music creation. You can add an enormous amount of impact to a song just by creating silence. I also tend to avoid over editing, maintaining the character of the performance intact. While mixing, my process is 100% in the box. While I have my preferences, my plugin collection is always purposefully expanding. I really take my time on the mixing process. My goal is to always do more than just making it sound right, but to understand the artist's vision for that and extrapolate it.
