Interview with Alex Aédel Jr

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: In 2022 I worked as a mixing engineer for a game that was released to promote the Qatar World Cup on the Roblox platform in partnership with Sportv, one of the biggest TV stations in Brazil.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm currently upgrading my mixing room, and I have some projects to do, both production and mixing.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Unfortunately, I haven't met anyone yet.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both. In an ideal world, the two complement each other. Digital is much more practical, you have a world of options on the screen, but with analog it is much easier to reach a certain sound.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: Always work with excellence, seek to do the best for music, and always be fair.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: I like to come up with ideas, I like to mix, and I really enjoy presenting the final result to people and seeing their reactions.

  13. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  14. A: I like to meet my clients, learn a little about their life and history. I like to know what the purpose of the music is and what message he wants to convey with it.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Don't choose just by name, choose the one that best suits your style of music and that will serve you in the best possible way.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: My MacBook, my SSD, an Ilok, an interface, and my headphones.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: I play guitar since I was a child, I grew up in a family of musicians. In 2017 I entered music college, where I started studying and working in a studio. After that I worked with a producer, where I was responsible for all editions. In 2023 I joined the team at Estudio Rocinante, where I had my greatest experiences with audio. Parallel to that, I was always playing at church or accompanying artists, doing mixing work and also FOH at shows and festivals in my state.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: I can describe my style as something that always seeks the best for music and that mainly seeks to make it emotional, because for me that is the main meaning of music.

  23. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  24. A: Elevation Rhythm, because I think they are innovating within a style that was already falling into the same.

  25. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  26. A: As a mixing engineer: Al Schmitt, Michael Brauer, Josh Gudwin and Luke Hendrickson. As producer: Bob Strange.

  27. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  28. A: I tend to work a lot with mixing, production and guitar recording.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Listen to music every day, from different styles, from different times, as this will give you musical and technical knowledge to add to your productions.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: The genre I most identify with is gospel. However, I have already worked with acoustic, pop, mpb and country.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: My musicality, something I acquired over many years playing, listening to different musical styles and mainly because of studying music at college, which opened my mind to many other things I didn't know.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: Regardless of the type of work I'm doing, I always like to talk to the artist beforehand to find out how much freedom I'm going to have on the project. I always like to listen to the project calmly to know what I can do, because I also don't want to pollute the music with too much information. I consider myself an eclectic person, and with that I like to bring techniques that are mostly from other styles, because I think this is out of the ordinary and adds well to both production and mixing.
