Interview with TOY INVENTION

  1. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  2. A: I’m a self taught musician and play drums, guitar and keyboards. I’m also an enthusiastic vocalist, but since my work as production music composer I have my focus on instrumental music only. Over ten years back I have written a lot of pop / rock music - some songs with guest singers, which was a really great experience. Especially rock music has caught me during my time playing keyboards in a rock band for several years. But tweaking sounds and working in the studio has become my real passion.

  3. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  4. A: It mainly moves between pop and electronic, sometimes orchestral. It was always important for me to have the freedom creating music in many styles and genres.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: I really don't know exactly... :) ...maybe to compose willful pop songs. But mainly to know exactly what a customer needs.

  7. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  8. A: In some weeks I start with a new halloween tablet game for children.

  9. Q: How would you describe your style?

  10. A: Well, I think it always has a "pop touch" because of my background in the 80s. With the new synthesizers back then I was composing a lot of pop music. This was very formative.

  11. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  12. A: It was a tablet game for kids and the customer was fully satisfied with the result. I capured the atmosphere in all the levels as desired.

  13. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  14. A: Since a longer time now digital; because the difference between analog isn't that great anymore. A couple of years ago the typical "analog simulator" plugins didn't really a good job. But today some helper are bringing in the warmth I've been looking for so long.

  15. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  16. A: The job will be done and they will be satisfied.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: It depends of course upon the project or application the song is composed for; and it changes always. Sometimes with a strict instrumentation, sometimes experimental. Never underestimate „happy accidents“. Often the best songs simply „happen“ with a random sound or melody. Then you have the inspiration and the song is almost done.
