Interview with Ben Sinatra

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am most proud of the two albums I produced in the 2020, with The Amiimopps. I pretty much did everything except sing and play keyboard. My bandmate wrote more than half the songs and I wrote the rest. The whole process of making an album twice make me proud.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I am working on writing and producing album three for my band, The Amiimopps. Feel free to check out The Amiimopps on any music streaming platform.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Hybrid. I think you can achieve cool sounds using both.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: How well do you know the song and can you play the song start to finish without messing up.

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: My trumpet, Les Paul, computer, bass, and drums.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I've writing music for over two years now, but have been playing since grade school.

  13. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  14. A: Make sure you know your parts whether it is singing or playing an instrument. The song is only as good as the performance.

  15. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  16. A: I usually work on rock, metal, and jazz.

  17. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  18. A: Playing parts and making arrangements is definitely my strongest skill. Because of these, the mixing and mastering is a lot easier. I rely mostly on the production to make a great song.

  19. Q: What's your typical work process?

  20. A: My work flow is usually writing a demo before recorded real parts. For demos I do use software for drums and amps. It makes the writing process easier. I rely mostly on my ear for writing music and inspiration from other songs to get good feel. Once the demo is done, the recording comes naturally and mixing and mastering happens.

  21. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  22. A: In my studio, I am all about getting sound from actual instruments and relying on performance, rather than do everything in post. I use real amps, live drums, and no autotune/pitch correction. I don't like beat detective either For mixing, everything is in the box. I mostly use the SSL series for mixing. For Mastering I use Izotope's Ozone 8.

  23. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  24. A: I have many influences, since I play multiple instruments. Here is a list of bands and people that influence me: Frank Sinatra, Doc Severinsen, Maynard Ferguson, Slash, Elton John, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Evanescene, Judas Priest, Soundgarden, and many more.

  25. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  26. A: I mostly do song writing, part recordings, and producing. I also mix and master songs.
