Interview with John Olowe
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Analog, because there is distinct natural, and full sound to analog that you ultimately just can't achieve with digital, as hard as one may try. There are DEFINITELY good qualities to the digital sound, but I prefer the feel of analog.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: For a punchier Kick and Bass relationship I often roll off the bottom end of the kick around 30 hertz to allow the sub space to be fully expressed and the kick to occupy it's own pocket. I sometimes, for a tighter bass signal, also roll off around 20 hertz for less rumble.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I usually work on R&B, Hip Hop, Trap and Pop types of songs. I do, however, have experience with Rock, Electronic and many others.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My strongest skill is definitely production.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring creative flair and freedom to songs. If authorized, I WILL juice a song up in any aspect.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Musicians and producers such as Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Bruce Swedien, Alex Tumay, Kanye West, London On Da Track, 40, Drake, Wheezy, Lil Baby and others truly inspire my sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work I do for my clients is recording, beat-making/producing and mixing. I also assist with songwriting and content and basic vocal support.
