Interview with magic_mastering

  1. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  2. A: I'd say a combination of both is optimal to have a fair combination of character, reliability, recall abilities, and overall options when doing various processes.

  3. Q: How would you describe your style?

  4. A: I'm a very approachable and straight forward worker which will take care of any needs you may have in your editing, mixing, or mastering processes as soon as I possibly can and with the most respect, attention and care possible.

  5. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  6. A: My goal with every project I work in is to bring a song to a new level in terms of the impact it will have on the listener. I treat every element/s having in mind the rest of tracks and the effect it will have when played.

  7. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  8. A: For monitoring, I use Kali Audio's IN Three-Way Best In Class Coaxial Studio Monitors in a room treated with membrane bass traps, broadband absorbers and diffusion. I also use Sennheiser 6xx Audiophile Open Back Headphones and Audio Technica M50X Studio Closed Back Headphones. I use an Audient ID22 AD/DA and Monitoring System, a Motu Ultralite MK3 I/O, an Ashly 3102 Stereo Third Octave Equalizer, an Skp Excitter 2 Multiband Enhancer, a Neutrix Patchbay and a Custom Analog VU Meter.

  9. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  10. A: I'm very inspired by Andrew Scheps and Mick Guzauski. They have a particular way of working and audio signature that can't be beaten in terms of character, overall feel, and depth.

  11. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  12. A: I most commonly do mixing and mastering for my clients who want the two services in the same package, although I'm also comfortable doing stem mastering, only mixing or mastering, or working on audio edits such as vocal comping, manual tuning, aligning/quantizing, etc.
