Music is about conveying emotion and mixing should be about pulling as much emotion as possible out of every song. My focus is on exactly that with an individual approach to each song. I don't copy and paste chains song to song as I believe each song deserves its own special attention. It's your music and it should properly convey your complex and emotive message.
The mixing process should be a two-way conversation. I don't believe in "one-and-done". Even though remote mixing can be at a distance, phone calls, real time mix streaming, and zoom calls during revisions can be used to get the same quality an in-person visit could provide.
My background starts with Dark Horse Institute, where analog and digital are taught together. Console workflow informs digital workflow. After that is my time spent at Dark Horse Recording, first as just an intern, then an assistant, and now as an on-call freelance engineer. Recording sessions are an easy way to learn everything is to serve the song; just as careful mic choice and position can empower the message in a song during recording, specific compressor choice and settings enhance a song during mixing. Everything is to serve your vision, and your vision deserves to be conveyed powerfully.
