Donnie Christianson

Guitarist & Vocalist

Donnie Christianson on SoundBetter

Experienced melodic rock guitarist with one foot planted firmly in the Old South and the other in a futuristic offworld dystopia. My style is a strange blend of classic Southern rock, ambient drones, and scifi-electronica, and we can set those dials wherever you need.

Interview with Donnie Christianson

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I am most proud of the work I did on Dukes Nitemare's 2003 album "Another Town...Another Show". The songs were really strong, and I feel I did some of my best playing on those sessions. I handled all the lead and rhythm guitars, and many of the backing vocals. Also was a co-writer on one track.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: Currently working on an instrumental guitar EP, plus demos of tracks for an upcoming heavy rock project where I'm lead vocalist and co-lead guitarist.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I'm brand-new here so not sure yet.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: While I prefer analog tape (mainly because there are no pesky software updates), it just isn't practical for me right now, so my setup is currently direct and digital.

  9. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  10. A: Contact me to talk about your project - I'd love to find out what you're looking for and how I can help.

  11. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  12. A: My Charvel Model 1, a Marshall Silver Jubilee, a Dunlop Wah, a Boss DS-1, and a Digitech XP-300 Space Station. My dream rig.

  13. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  14. A: Heavy rock/Southern Rock, instrumental guitar songs (Satriani, etc), ambient/electronic.

  15. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  16. A: Melody and emotion.

  17. Q: What's your typical work process?

  18. A: Several listens to the track, kind of hearing ideas in my head for what the track needs. Then I'll start working out melodies and riffs until I get something I think is presentable to the client. After we agree on the rough demo, I'll work on crafting the final guitar tracks.

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: I have a LOT of different influences, but the artists that inspire me the most are Steve Vai for his innovation and eccentric nature, Stevie Ray Vaughan for just unleashing his soul in every note he played, Nili Brosh for her chops and melody, and Celldweller for not only his incredible production skills, but also his work ethic.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: Melodic rock solos and riffs, pretty much all guitars on a project. I also sing backing vocals.
