Toby did an amazing job on our songs. We´ve send him over some of our rehearsal room recordings and asked him to mix and master them. We did not expect that he could get such an amazing sound out of our recordings. We absolutely will work with him again in the future.

Interview with Simple Life Studio

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I´ve started as an independent artist to publish my own music. I have bootstrapped it completely from scratch for a little more than a year ago and I´m very proud on how far I came by now. These complete "music business world" is fairly new to me but it is also very exciting and I´m looking forward to help others on their way to making their dreams come true the way that I did.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I´m constantly working on getting better.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I haven´t spend that much time on soundbetter to know who´s here :-)

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both has it´s pro´s and con´s. I like to blend both worlds together. Digital processing makes many things faster and easier but analog makes it sound more organic and natural.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: If I´m the right fit for their music I´d promise that we can make the song to what they wish it would be.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Being creative.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Can we do it this or that way? - Let´s try it and figure out what fits best.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: My music sounds too raw. I like it when a song has it´s edges and is not too smoothe, because that´s just not me.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: I would like to figure out if it´s real what they are doing or not.

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: Go for someone that fits to you on a personal level. It doesn´t have to be the cheapest and it doesn´t have to be the worlds best. Go for someone who is surfing the same wave as you and you might wonder what kind of magic can happen.

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: A guitar and something to write down new ideas would be enough.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I´m a musician as long as I can think, but I´m absolutely on fire on the whole music business thing for about 1,5 years.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Authentic, organic - not too smoothe

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I´d like to dive real deep into my favorite genre which is, you might guessed it: country-rock. That´s why I would welcome every artist related to this kind of music.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Don´t be afraid to keep it simple.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Country-Rock :-)

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: Getting the most out of a song with using less tools.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I´m bringing life to a song :-)

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: Working start to finish one day and coming back the other day to make the last tweaks.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: I´m running a small hybrid homestudio. Nothing extra ordinary but it fits what I need to work in.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: I´m inspired by Colt Capperune for example as the engineer and Aaron Lewis or Jacob Brantley as the artists.

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: So most common thing is do for my clients in the process of making a song is the mixing part.
