Vocal Production Specialist

Q: What are you working on at the moment?

A: At the moment I’m working with a range of international clients in different roles, depending on what each project needs. On some records I’m involved as a producer, on others as a vocal producer, mixing engineer or mastering engineer. A big part of my work is also focused on detailed vocal treatment and custom vocal chains. I’ve worked on vocal material and projects connected to internationally established artists including MRAK and James Hype, alongside independent artists, producers and vocalists from different countries. I really enjoy having that range because it means I can look at a record from more than one perspective. I can work deeply on the vocal performance and editing, but also understand how that vocal needs to interact with the production, mix and final master. That combination of creative and technical work is probably the best representation of what I do today.

Q: Analog or digital and why?

A: Hybrid, definitely. I love the character, saturation and movement that analog processing can bring, especially on vocals, drums and mix buses, but I also rely heavily on the precision, recall and flexibility of digital tools. For me it’s never about choosing one side for the sake of it. I use whatever serves the song best. Sometimes that means adding analog style colour and imperfections, other times it means keeping things extremely clean and controlled in the digital domain. The goal is always the result, not the format.

Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

A: That I will treat the song like music, not just a technical job. I’ll communicate clearly, be honest about what I think can improve the record and pay attention to the small details without losing sight of the bigger picture. I also want clients to feel comfortable giving feedback. The goal is always to reach a result we both genuinely believe in, not simply finish a checklist.

Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

A: I started producing and working with audio more than 10 years ago, initially through electronic music and Ableton Live. Over time I became increasingly interested in the engineering side of records, especially vocal production, editing, mixing and mastering. I later studied Audio Production at SAE Institute and continued developing my workflow through professional projects with artists and producers. Today I work remotely with clients internationally while continuing to develop both the creative and technical sides of my work.

Q: How would you describe your style?

A: ’d describe my style as detailed, modern and musical. I like clean and controlled mixes, but never at the expense of character or emotion. I usually focus a lot on the relationship between the vocal, low end, dynamics and space, making sure everything feels intentional and three dimensional. With vocals especially, I prefer a polished but natural result. I’m very precise with editing, tuning, tone and dynamics, but I never want the listener to hear the processing itself. My goal is for the record to feel bigger, clearer and more confident while still sounding like the artist.

Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

A: I mainly work across electronic music, pop, EDM, house, techno and hip hop, but I also enjoy more intimate and acoustic productions where vocals and dynamics are much more exposed. I don’t use exactly the same approach for every genre. I prefer understanding what makes a particular production work and then adapting the engineering around that.

Q: What's your strongest skill?

A: Vocal production and detailed editing are probably my strongest skills. I spend a lot of time working on comping, natural pitch correction, timing, dynamics, resonance control and vocal tone. I’m very detail oriented, but the end goal is always for the listener not to hear the editing. The vocal should simply feel confident, intentional and naturally part of the record.

Q: What do you bring to a song?

A: Clarity, detail and perspective. I like polished records, but I never want the processing to remove the personality of the performance or production. My goal is usually to make the emotional focus of the song clearer, give every element its right place and add the punch, depth and dimensionality needed for the track to translate professionally.

Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

A: I always start by listening before touching anything. I want to understand the song, the artist’s intention and any references first. Then I organise the session, identify the main technical or musical issues and work from the most important elements outward. With vocals I usually begin with editing and tuning before moving into tone, dynamics and effects. With a full mix I focus first on balance, low end and the relationship between the key elements, then refine space, width, detail and finally the master. I also like to keep communication open throughout the process so revisions stay focused and useful.

Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

A: Most of my work is focused on vocal production, detailed vocal editing, mixing and mastering. I often receive raw or partially edited vocals and take them through comping, tuning, timing, cleanup, processing and final integration into the mix. I also work on complete mixes for electronic, pop, EDM and hip hop productions, with a strong focus on keeping the artist’s identity intact while bringing the track to a professional release ready level.
