Interview with Lizz Soren
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: I produced and performed a custom song where the client wanted an emotional, cinematic yet intimate feel. I wrote the melody, lyrics, arranged the whole track and delivered vocals. They told me it made them cry, that’s the reason I do music.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: I’m producing multiple custom songs, refining vocals for a client EP, and building new samples for artists looking for top-quality vocal hooks.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not personally yet, but I respect many of the vocalists and mix engineers here.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Digital for flexibility and speed, but I use analog-style saturation tools to bring warmth and life.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I'll treat your song like it's my own and deliver professional, emotional, high-quality results, always on time.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Turning someone's emotions or story into a real song they can feel proud of.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Can you match the vibe of this artist?” Yes, I can adapt my vocal tone and production style while keeping your song unique.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: People thinks great vocals only come from plugins - but it's always about performance and intention first.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: What mood do you want? Which artists inspire this project? What is the message you want the listener to feel?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Look for someone who listens deeply to your vision and communicates clearly. Chemistry matters more than fancy words.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Rode NT1, UA Volt 2, MacBook, Yamaha HS5, and SoundToys/RC-20 to keep things creative.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I've been singing, writing and producing music for 12 years, starting at 13 years old in church and eventually expanding into professionalism. Was a hard process.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Warm, emotional, clean, and modern. I mix organic instruments with soft electronic textures for a heartfelt feel.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Olivia Dean, for me it's her tone, simplicity, and soulful honesty perfectly align with the emotional style I love to produce.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don't overprocess vocals, start with a great performance, then add subtle compression, light saturation, and a clean chain. Emotion > perfection.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Usually Pop, Acoustic-Pop, Christian Music, R&B, Singer-Songwriter, piano, cinematic music.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Creating memorable melodies and delivering clean, expressive vocals, but I also consider myself very good at working with orchestral music.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Emotion, clarity, and a strong melodic identity. I specialize in vocals that feel alive, compositions and productions that enhance the message.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start by understanding the client's vision, idea and references. Then I craft melody, lyrics, music and arrangement. After recording vocals, I polish everything with a clean and modern mix, or anything else the client needs, delivering multiple revisions until the client is 100% satisfied.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work from a treated home studio featuring a Rode NT1 and Shure SM7B, Scarlett Solo and UA Volt 2, Yamaha HS5 monitors, Waves/iZotope/FabFilter vocal chains, SoundToys, and Ableton Live 11.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by Billie Eilish, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Dean, Coldplay, FINNEAS, and Tainy. Artists who combine emotion, simplicity, and high-quality production.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I create custom songs, toplines, vocal production and full arrangements. Most clients hire me to craft emotional melodies, emotional music, clean vocal performances and radio-ready productions that elevate their stories.
