Martín Reznik

multi-instrumentalist producer

Martín Reznik on SoundBetter

I have a special talent for the creation of catchy melodies. I master a very wide range of styles. I can play any instrument, especially guitars and I also get along very well with the keyboards, synths and programming rhythm sections. I carry myself very naturally and fluently in the recording studio, both as a recording engineer and mix engineer.

Hello everyone. My name is Martín Reznik.

I am a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and singer. I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm a freelance worker, usually hired by an advertisement producing company named "Papa Music", the only producer in Latin America that has won a Golden Lion in Film Craft for better use of music. With them, I have produced hundreds of commercials for the most important brands in the world, such as McDonalds, Coca Cola, Comcast, Toyota, Ford and Movistar.

If you listen to the demo uploaded to my profile, you will note that one of my strengths is a natural ability to compose "hits".

Interview with Martín Reznik

  1. Q: How would you describe your style?

  2. A: My style is a pineapple on the face and a whisper in the ear.

  3. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  4. A: Actually, I think my dream would be to dedicate myself solely to producing my own music. I love working as a producer for my clients, and I am super obsessive and a perfectionist when doing so, because I love music in general, but my dream would be to make a living out of playing my own music. Though I have not yet reached that goal, this is the path that I am in.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: The most important thing is always to write a good song. From there, everything is downhill. Then you have to be methodical and neat when it comes to producing it, but if you cannot find a good melody that conveys the necessary feeling, it's not worth sitting down to capture it in the studio. It's much easier to work when the song is really good.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: In all these years that I have been working in the field of music for advertising, I have learned a lot. One of the most important things is that it has encouraged me to investigate rhythms and styles that at first were not my specialty. At the beginning, they used to call me to compose and produce soundtracks of rock, pop, folk (American and Latin American), or climatic instrumental music based on acoustic or Spanish guitar, charango, cuatro or ukulele compositions. Over time, I learned to program rhythms very effectively, and also developed great skill with synthesizers. I can write and produce a wide range of music, from a rock band to climatic music. I've made romantic music, heavy metal, ballads, folk, pop, punk, and Latin American folk music.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: My fundamental skill is the catchy melody.

  11. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  12. A: I can easily catch the feeling that a subject needs, be it joy, strength or sadness. I also think I'm pretty clear with the arrangements

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: The first thing I do is to look for the melody and the harmony. Then I build a base in the computer and I start to play. I record the guitars, the bass, and then synthesizers. Then I see if it fits me well to sing it myself or if it calls for another specific singer who I feel would perform better in the song. Sometimes it may also be necessary to call a different musician that fulfills a function that I can not to supply, such as wind instruments, violins, bandoneons, etc. I always try not to not to overload the band and to select it specifically so it fulfills the needs of the client.

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: I work in a professional studio that is fully equipped with the best instruments and microphones used today. It has a large amount of vintage equipment and also a wide range of synthesizers.

  17. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  18. A: George Martin, Brian Eno, Gustavo Santaolalla.

  19. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  20. A: My main activity is the composition and production of music for advertising. I usually work composing for a specific image and using reference music. At the same time, I also work as a composer for my own musical projects.

  21. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  22. A: I am very proud of all the work I did during 2017. I made a compilation which is uploaded to my profile so clients can get an idea of what my virtues are. I hope it pleases you.

  23. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  24. A: My last job was a production in advertising for a beer brand named San Miguel.

  25. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  26. A: To work under tight deadlines, it is better to work in digital... but I most surely love all the music that was made in the 70s.

  27. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  28. A: I promise that I will give everything so the result is a 10 out of 10, always.

  29. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  30. A: I love to make music, I love to create, I love to give life to feelings.

  31. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  32. A: Could you finish this job for yesterday? "Of course".

  33. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  34. A: It is hard work, in the sense that, in general, clients often do not know how to explain exactly what they want and that ends up making the work take longer than it could. That is why it is important to have a solid communication and to have specific music as reference, in order to know with the greatest accuracy what kind of production the client is looking for.

  35. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  36. A: Hello friend! How are you doing? Tell me what you need!

  37. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  38. A: Be as clear as possible as to what you need, please respect my time, try not to go round.

  39. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  40. A: If I were on a desert island, I would spend my time swimming in the sea and watching the stars.

  41. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  42. A: I started playing an old keyboard that was in my house when I was 8 years old. At 12, I grabbed the acoustic guitar, and at 15 the electric guitar. I was self-taught until I was 18. Then I studied several years in a popular music school, and then I left to study with the teachers that really interested me. At age 20, I recorded my first album of songs. I think that, from then on, I never stopped composing and producing, including the records that I made with my own band and the ones in which I participated as a session guitarist. Producing music for advertising is what gives me food and shelter, I have been doing it for 10 years now and I really enjoy it.

  43. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  44. A: Andres Mayo
