I've played and produced music professionally for 30+ yrs and appeared on various major label releases as well as hundreds of Film/TV shows.

AcademyCurve™ Music features Kirke Jan Blankenship; a gifted multi-instrumentalist Composer and Sound Designer, accomplished in the skills of Music Production for Film/Television & Visual Media. Kirke is a former Drummer in many bands such as Ours, The Rising, Everything Is Energy and has written and produced music appearing in many various Television Shows & Series. Interview with AcademyCurve™ Music

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: Probably the project I'm most proud of would be a record called "Everything Is Energy", produced by Krish Sharma (Perry Farrell, The Rolling Stones). I Co-Wrote 6 of the songs and played Drums on All Tracks except for #10 (Dave Krusen of Pearl Jam).

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm currently working on an AcademyCurve Drama Vol2 album and producing an artist from Vancouver, BC for Hipster Cartel.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: I haven't seen anyone I know personally.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Because I have a Hybrid setup, I'd say a little of both. But if it has to lean toward one side or the other, I'd have to say 'Digital', for ease of Recall and Delivery time.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: I'll give you the best I possibly can; all day, every day.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: Music is and has been my life for my entire life. There's no aspect I like and enjoy more than the other.

  13. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  14. A: Q: Can you go faster? A: I'll try.

  15. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  16. A: That Prep doesn't take a long time.

  17. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  18. A: 1) Where do you want to use your music (streaming, commercial release)? 2) Who do you like (fav. bands, what styles)? 3) When do you need the final product?

  19. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  20. A: trust me

  21. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  22. A: Probably stuff from my studio: BF mm45s, Avalon u5, API CS, Distressor, Fatso.

  23. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  24. A: I was a touring and session drummer for the first part of my career. In 2008, I started writing, recording, and producing. By 2010, I was asked by a TV Music Library to be a staff writer which has resulted in 500+ TV placements, while at the same time, I was producing independent singers in my LA studio. Since then, I've done work for several companies including VICE, CrasherTunes, and Hipster Cartel.

  25. Q: How would you describe your style?

  26. A: Drama Rock, Drama Pop, Drama Hop, Drama Score.

  27. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  28. A: I've been very fortunate to work with some extremely talented and gifted singers in the past, both while playing/performing and Producing. So, I guess my answer would be: the artist I'd like to work with is an artist that would like to work with me.

  29. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  30. A: Filtering synths on Verses. extra credit: ride the Automation of the Drums Master into the 2Buss on the fills.

  31. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  32. A: Because of my Media Composing background, I've worked on a lot of different styles of music.

  33. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  34. A: I would probably say that hearing parts that can jump out to a listener would be one my strongest skills.

  35. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  36. A: I've been produced by quite a few world-class Producers myself and mixed by world-class Mix Engineers, so I understand how much can be brought out of a song and hopefully, the best way to present it to the world. My own musical style, in both Mixing and Producing, has been described as "vibey" Drama Rock. so I like to bring out as much texture as I can.

  37. Q: What's your typical work process?

  38. A: That depends on the job: if it's a Mix or Master, I get the files delivered to me, do a Session Prep, then do a complete Mix/Master and post a watermarked version for any notes, then make the proper adjustments. If it's a full production, most of the time it's only a Vocalist that needs the music built around them, so I work from the ground up to Final Delivery.

  39. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  40. A: It's a Hybrid setup: please contact for a complete list.

  41. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  42. A: Clint Mansell, Bring Me The Horizon, Jed Kurzel, Vidna Obmana, Boogie Nights, Jackie Brown, Bill Withers, Days Of The New, Boom Boom Satellites, Spun

  43. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  44. A: The most common types of work I get hired to do is full Work-For-Hire productions.
