James Filippides on SoundBetter

James Filippides is a songwriter, producer and mixer based in London, England. Mainly working from his home studio set up in Brockley, South East London, James often ventures over to Iguana Studios in Brixton to work on larger scale projects.

Having been active in the music industry for over 10 years, James started his journey writing and playing in bands but celebrated his first major success when he formed the Brighton based Indie-Pop act Safe To Swim in 2014. As their singer, songwriter and producer, they played a number of UK tours and prestigious festivals, as well as gaining exposure from many well-regarded publications, editorial playlists and radio stations globally. Shortly after their disbandment in 2019, James moved to London to pursue a career producing and writing for other artists, making his first steps cutting his teeth at various studios in the city. During this time, James had the pleasure of assisting on sessions for a few notable names including Moses Boyd, Nubya Garcia, Andy Savours (The Killers, The Magic Gang, Liz Lawrence) and Oli Barton-Wood (Nilufer Yanya, Declan McKenna, Mellah).

Now working independently, James enjoys working with up-and-coming pop and alternative talent. Recent ongoing collaborations have been with viral Tik Tok personality Hongza and The Voice semi-finalist Sophie May Williams’s project Hourglvss. As a co-writer, working from the ground up, as well as being able to step in at any point during the production process, James will do everything he can to help artists achieve their vision.
