Danny Toeman on SoundBetter

Deep lunged, powerhouse singer with authentic old school vibes, specialising in soul, funk, and blues. ‘Good enough’ is never enough for me. Whatever part I might play in your project, I make sure my contribution is something we can all be proud of.

Thanks for checking out my profile. I have nearly 10 years experience in the music industry, singing, songwriting, arranging, and producing.

In my performing career, I've graced many famous stages (singing my original music), including the o2 Arena, the Royal Albert Hall, the Roundhouse, and Ronnie Scotts.

I love producing and arranging, and have experience arranging horn sections (e.g 3-piece funk section, big band) and string sections (e.g string quartets), and vocal harmonies. I can read and write sheet music.

I have been set up for home recording for years and also have round-the-clock access to a bigger, acoustically treated studio.

I graduated with a 1st class honours Music Degree from the University of Leeds, specialising in composition. My background allows me to deeply anaylse songs and genres on a musicological level, which in turn allows me to present well thought out musical solutions to any songwriting/production issues you might have.

It was a pleasure to work with Danny. He helped me realise my vision for the song both stylistically and lyrically. He was super communicative and delivered great recordings that were also nicely pre-edited which saved me a lot of time during production process. I'd be happy to work with Danny again!

Interview with Danny Toeman

  1. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  2. A: I'm working on a library of songs in a diverse array of genres I've not had the time to look into before, including Modern Country, Trap Pop, Indie Disco, and Sinatra-style Ballads.

  3. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  4. A: Ricky Kinrade is the best bassist I've worked with; an incredible musician. https://soundbetter.com/profiles/279166-ricky-kinrade If you're looking for female vocals from the consumate professional, go with Louise Golbey. https://soundbetter.com/profiles/109255-louise-golbey

  5. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  6. A: Providing references of similar tracks to what you're looking for is always helpful.

  7. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  8. A: Laptop, Focusrite Scarlet, Shure SM7B Microphone, AKG Monitoring Headphones, and a Fender Strat. Hopefully the desert island has an electricity supply and all the right cables!

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: I like to use varispeed to thicken up instruments and vocal textures when necessary; it's the old school way of doing things, and puts more control in your hands rather than a plug-in.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I have a small acoustically treated vocal booth, connected to a treated mixing room.

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: The most common types of work I do are either adding my vocals to a song; or taking a clients chords and structure, and turning it into a full backing track.
