Who needs me the most:

Songwriters who are past the stage of melting down over criticism and want to take their craft to the next level.

Bands who have adequate players and skill but sound like crap and don't know why.

Vocalists who are a big deal at church but sound terrible in the studio.

Fledgling artists who have no idea they can sound awesome the first time.

A little background. Nearly every great producer is an instrumentalist or multi-instrumentalist. In my case, piano, drums, trombone. Many engineers believe they are also producers. (Some actually can do both well, but don't give anyone the benefit of the doubt or your music will suffer.)

Step back, spend some time in a library (those old things) and figure out what really makes hit records. Figure out what worked then AND NOW. Study the magnates of the industry - Quincy, Hugh Padgham, Elliot Scheiner, Nile Rodgers, Ron Nevison, Rick Ruben, Phil Spector, T-Bone, Mutt Lange, Sean Combs, Max Martin, Dr. Luke. If you find yourself bickering with my list, you may not need me. If you don't recognize most of those names, you probably do.

Don't fall for the folk wisdom of the masses. Home studios are appropriate FOR CERTAIN THINGS but can RUIN YOUR SOUND. Watch it!
