Breaker 17 Studio on SoundBetter

Get your BIG sound and stay on budget! Have a listen to our work, we feel it speaks for itself. We have worked with multiple charting artists and guarantee your satisfaction!

Results matter and we provide! Just listen to our work!

We have years of experience working with musicians in the Chattanooga, TN area and would like to branch out to more mixing work. You can compare our work to more expensive big name mixers and hear how we hold up.

Budgets keep getting smaller and its true that it is getting more feasible to get those results at home but there is no replacement for a great mixing engineer. After putting so much care into creating a great song don't let it be muddied up by a bad mix. Get the mix you deserve, on budget!

Want to revise your mix? No problem! It's the age we live in. Don't settle for a small imperfection because of an expensive recall. The way we work the first 3 recalls are gratuitous. Print through analog, use analog sounding software, and get the analog mix you want.

I'd love to hear about your project. Click the 'Contact' button above to get in touch.

Josh Chuma and Breaker 17 Studios are the BEST! I can’t say enough about the comfortable, positive atmosphere that encourages creativity! I feel right at home in the studio, and that is reflected in my vocals. Not only is Josh a fun guy, he is a GREAT sound guy with a real ear. He is a perfectionist, but he is also timely. I would recommend him!

Awesome atmosphere and awesome gear! Definitely the best recording facility around Chattanooga. We recorded a 12 song album there, and we will be using B17 for any future recording endeavors. Highly recommended!

Good stuff! Walk in and hit it. These guys are good. All the praise in the world ain't gonna make up for just taking time to visit Breaker 17, talk with Josh and listen to some of the samples of the projects that have taken place there. Drive to Nashville, Atlanta or Memphis and pay twice or triple the price. I'm stayin' local in Ft. O.

After many years recording at major studios in Nashville Tn.. I began to search for a studio in the Chattanooga TN area because I live in the area. No one offered Pro Tools. Breaker 17 not only offered Pro Tools but also the best in equipment and an engineer that in second to no one in Nashville Tn..Josh Chuma. Great atmosphere! Great Product.

Interview with Breaker 17 Studio

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: I enjoy mixing so much but its an audience's emotional response that has brought me the most joy. After a song or album has been released and I get to see a video of a little boy singing along or that the message in a song has helped someone in some way, it is very gratifying to have been a part of that.

  3. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  4. A: What tone would you like to set and/or is there an artist/album you really like the tone or balance on.

  5. Q: What's your typical work process?

  6. A: You always build a house on a good foundation and then take great care to make sure the details are perfect while retaining an overall focus. The important details need to pop.

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: Big sounding, focused mixes!

  9. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  10. A: There's a yet to be released track by Mary Fletcher that just oozes with emotion. I had the pleasure of being the Recording Engineer for the vocal tracking and the Mixing and Mastering Engineer.

  11. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  12. A: Track and/or print through analog. Mix digital that sounds analog, for recall. Today there is so much software that emulates the analog sound so well and with digital mix revisions don't have to be expensive.

  13. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  14. A: 100% satisfaction if I work on your project. Commercial mixes, huge sounds, your music.

  15. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  16. A: Listen to the engineer's worm before making a decision and have a conversation about what your project goals are.

  17. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  18. A: SSL 4000E, Neve 1073, UA 1176, API 3134, Pro Tools HD rig.

  19. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  20. A: Graduated from MTSU in 2009. Breaker 17 Studio began in 2010. So far we have worked with Cody McCarver, Mary Fletcher, and Big Smoke to name a few.

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: My mixing has been compared to Chris Lord Alge.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Good songs and emotion will always beat a great mix on a bad song.

  25. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  26. A: Country, Rock, Pop

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: The best engineers know how to get out of the music's way and let the audience be enveloped in the song. The mix should be larger than life without my finger prints being noticeable to your audience.

  29. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  30. A: Set up to serve your needs efficiently, with a low cost while giving you the huge sound you deserve.

  31. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  32. A: Chris Lord Alge, Jeff Balding

  33. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  34. A: We record many bands live but where we really shine is mixing.
