I’ve known and worked with Dave for about two years now and he’s a producer‘s producer. He is a classically trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. I’ve been in the booth with him producing my performance and I’ve never gotten a better performance due to his coaching and seemingly infinite patience. Aside from Dave being an amazing producer, Dave is the most down to earth professional I’ve met, and I’m happy to have encountered him in my professional journey. If you want your song to realize it’s full potential without the A-Lister price, Dave is your man.

I’ve worked with Dave for almost 5 years now. He is the consummate Producer. He’s classically trained, he can sing, he can play multiple instruments, he can write, he can take a project from beginning to end. He has all the tools to turn an artist’s ideas into a song or album. He is high energy and high focus. He has a catalog of contacts in the industry for studios, engineers, and other players. Book Dave and you’ll get what you want done.

Interview with David Dinsmore

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I produced an album project for an up & coming Canadian artist named Matt Simpson. That project was an absolute joy because he completely gave me his trust with his music. We wrote the songs together and the recording & production was a culmination of every single musician involved. That album is full of singles and I'm extremely proud all our hard work!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I have a lot of irons in the fire current as music has been my sole profession for the last ten years. I get to meet new & exciting artists/ music every day at the studio. Now that I am freelance I have been doing much more writing and collaborating with other artists which have been amazing.

  5. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  6. A: Absolutely, my current "go-to" engineer Alex Maglione is a singularly gifted engineer and I would trust him with my clients any time. He, in fact, introduced me to SoundBetter.

  7. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  8. A: Both, each has positives and negatives. I have worked with clients that side with each and I am willing to work in either format, but in my opinion, a blend of both has the best results. Analog summing with the speed and flexibility of digital is preferred.

  9. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  10. A: To provide professional & affordable musical services without compromising creativity or quality. I will conduct all of my music business with integrity and honesty in all that I do... at all costs.

  11. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  12. A: The collaboration between all of the musicians (session players, artists, engineers) that organically creates something that blows everyone's expectations away and couldn't be achieved alone. There's no greater high in this world than nailing an amazing track!

  13. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  14. A: That the larger studios in Nashville are elitist and only work with "celebrity" or "well known" artists. This couldn't be farther from the truth, I am just as proud of my independent clients that are on the rise as I am about all the well-known names.

  15. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  16. A: What are your musical goals? Why do you create music and what are you trying to say with your music? Are your songs original and are they 100% complete? If everything goes perfectly where do you see your career going in the near future?

  17. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  18. A: Find the right person who believes and is passionate about your music. Not just the guys with the pedigree's that impress you, someone who wants to make your music better will always give you a better project than a Grammy winner who turns thousands of tracks a week. Passion is the key.... find it...

  19. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  20. A: A Martin D-Series acoustic guitar, a MacBook Pro w/ an interface, a U-47 & KM-84 microphone, and an original 1073 mic pre. Probably would need a generator for power as well lol!

  21. Q: How would you describe your style?

  22. A: My personal style is a mix of classic rock, blues, Americana, and folk all wrapped into one. My overall emphasis is always on the songwriting & arrangement, and vocals.

  23. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  24. A: Simple... Less is More!
