Interview with Jamey Warren

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: I always ask for at least a couple reference tracks that you think fit the style of what you're going for.

  3. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  4. A: As a player, I feel like my strongest asset is coming up with the right parts for a song. If you have something that you think needs something and can't figure out what it is, I will work to find the right part to fit it. Whether that's some shimmery electric guitar parts on top of your track, some classic p-bass for a swampier sound, or rhythm acoustic guitar to glue the track together, I'll work to make your track sound the best it can. The parts/ mixes you get from me will always be top studio quality and I will work as hard/ long on a project as I need to until you're happy with it.

  5. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  6. A: Trust your ears - If it sounds good it is good.

  7. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  8. A: My favorite work is doing country, pop, and singer/songwriter music but I also have a ton of fun working on hip-hop, funk, dance and experimental music.

  9. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  10. A: Listening

  11. Q: What's your typical work process?

  12. A: My typical process is: Write, Record, Mix, Master, Promote That said, the writing stage can include all of the other elements at the same time. I often record during writing, committing sounds up front so that mixing is easier and takes less time, getting as close to a mastered sound as possible before bouncing down to a stereo file, then mastering again. Once that's done, it's time to release and promote!

  13. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  14. A: I have some great microphones for recording vocals and acoustic instruments. I primarily run Logic Pro X with a Universal Audio front end. Plugins include a bunch by UA and the full suite of Waves.

  15. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  16. A: Demo vocals, Songwriting, and Demos. I take simple song work tapes, or even just lyrics, and turn them into full productions. You'll often find me recording, mixing, mastering, and remixing. I also produce music for myself and other artists as well.
