Interview with SeanTrè Smith
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Chose someone who truly has the skill set to execute what you really want so you will be completely satisfied
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: My MPK249, VSX headphones, Mac Pro , Microphone and Presonus Reference Montiors
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I’ve been creating music for over a decade, building a path as a producer, songwriter, vocal producer, and engineer. Starting out in Atlanta’s indie scene, I developed my sound and skills working with both emerging artists and industry legends like Coko (SWV), Q Parker (112), and Keith Sweat. My career has evolved from beat-making to full song creation handling everything from production to final mix with a focus on soulful, radio ready records that resonate.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: My style blends smooth, emotionally driven Pop and R&B with clean, modern production. You’re intentional with every sound layering melodies, vocals, and rhythms to create songs that feel both polished and soulful. There’s a signature warmth and clarity in your mixes, and your vocal direction brings out the best in every performance.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t overproduce too early let the vibe breathe. I always build around the emotion first, then layer intentionally so every sound has a purpose. Simplicity hits harder when it’s done right.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring a unique fusion of emotion, musicality, and technical skill. Whether I’m producing, writing, or vocal directing, I elevate every track with industry ready sound, storytelling, and soul.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Every song I create starts with a mood. I produce in Reason, layering custom melodies, rhythms, and textures. From there, I write lyrics and craft vocal arrangements that bring the emotion forward. As a vocal producer and engineer, I shape every detail from mic to master to deliver a full, radio ready sound.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: My home studio is a vibe-focused creative space built for clean vocal capture, precise editing, and inspiring production. I run Propellerhead Reason as my main DAW, with a streamlined workflow tailored for songwriting, vocal production, and mix prep. • Mic Chain: Industry standard condenser mic into a clean preamp, giving me warm, detailed vocal recordings every time. • Interface: Reliable, low-latency audio interface for tight vocal tracking and accurate playback using Protools 10. • Monitoring: Yamaha HS5 Pro studio monitors + VSX Steven Slate headphones for an honest mix translation. • Vocal Tools: I’m fully equipped with vocal tuning (Melodyne/Auto-Tune), reverb/delay effects, and harmonizing plugins to deliver a signature polished sound.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I help artists bring their songs to life through vocal production, songwriting, and engineering. Most of my work involves tuning vocals, arranging harmonies, writing or co-writing lyrics and melodies, and mixing the final vocal to sit perfectly in the track. Whether it’s a custom song for a special occasion or a radio-ready single, I guide the artist from raw idea to polished performance.
