Endorse Mo RamirezIf you’re serious about making music & want to work with someone who not only loves the craft, but is willing to work with you to ensure you get the best quality sound, then Heavy Gatz is the guy. I’ve worked with him for years and let me tell you, he will go above and beyond to get the perfect mix and master for your track(s). I would put my money on him against anyone engineer in the city of Houston and nationwide. If Heavy Gatz on the track, it will NEVER be wack. Peace
Had a mix done by him and honestly wasn’t satisfied, but I guess I can’t expect perfection
Love working with Gatz ! Really professional and loves what he does !
Gatz is one of the best engineers out there. Really cares about his artists and will go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. I will continue to go to Gatz as my primary engineer.
Only just recently started working with you but I really like the quality you provide compared to the “professionals” that claim themselves to be better than others
GATZ FUCKIN HEAVY!!!
He's the guy you want. Patient and very supportive 100%. Will work with again
Got a few songs mastered by Heavy and they all sounded 🔥🔥🔥 great top quality, bass that kicks, vocals; crispy. HIGHLY recommend you get yous music done by him
I’ve only been in the studio with Heavy Gatz 2 times. But from those times alone, I saw that he was one of those one of a kind Engineers that not only cares about his craft, but also cares about the artist’s craft and the song he is working on. He gave me criticism and advice that only propelled my song to become it’s best version. And he’s a chill dude, easy to work with all around.
Gatz is the truth and works magic. The sound and quality is very precise. Yes sir...
Been working with Gatz for years and he's always on point. Always willing to work with you and get the sound right, the way YOU want it to be. Excellent engineer with a craft that gets better with time as opposed to never evolving. Would recommend to any serious musician with a love for their art.
Dude’s a beast behind the boards.
Dope engineer on everything from rap to hip hop and my spanish tracks always come legit with the sound, even sends different versions to hear which one you like.
100!Mixing and Mastering professional service!
Gatz is a dope engineer. Worked with at Barron Studios in a collaborative project and the session was dope, the music was banging and the track came out fire.
Interview with Mo Ramirez
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: Two come to mind: “Fades Away” – A deeply personal track I recorded, mixed and produced during a rough time in my life. It’s raw, emotional, and honest — a reminder that music is therapy and storytelling combined. “Eastern Voodoo” – Hands down one of my proudest moments. This project was my reintroduction to engineering and a reunion with my favorite artist after 7 years apart. Nothing about that session was planned. We were just throwing ideas at the wall, and by the end of an hour, we had a project that still gives me chills. It wasn’t just music; it was proof that passion and chemistry create magic.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A conceptual EP blending hip-hop and atmospheric sounds for my personal catalog, plus client projects across hip-hop and R&B.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Not yet. I’m new here, but I believe in building relationships and collaborations.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Hybrid. I love the warmth and saturation of analog gear, but digital gives me flexibility and precision. Best of both worlds.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: That I will dedicate myself to bring the best version possible. I’ll treat your project like it’s mine. No shortcuts, no cookie-cutter templates just attention to detail, professional quality, and a mix that moves people.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: Turning someone’s raw vision into a finished record that feels alive. That moment when a client says, “This is exactly what I imagined” — that’s the payoff.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: “Can you make it sound like [insert major artist]?” Yes, I can match the vibe and quality—but I’ll make sure it still sounds like YOU. Authenticity matters.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That mixing is just leveling tracks. It’s not. It’s about creating a feeling, telling a story through sound, and making sure every element works together for impact.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: • What’s your vision for the track? • Any reference songs? • Do you want me to follow your structure or bring creative input? • Deadline and delivery expectations?
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Listen to their work, but also pay attention to communication and process. You want someone who understands your vision, not just the technical side. Great mixes are built on collaboration.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Honestly? My iPhone or MacBook with a solar-powered battery so I can keep making music anytime, anywhere. Creativity isn’t about limits it’s about adapting and creating with whatever you’ve got. If I can record an idea on the beach, that’s all I need.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started in music over a decade ago as an artist and producer, which gave me a unique perspective as an engineer. I’ve worked in professional environments, managed artists, and now focus on freelance mixing, mastering, and production. My background in both the creative and technical sides of music sets me apart.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Authentic, dynamic, and soulful with a gritty edge. I focus on clarity, warmth, and impact while keeping the raw emotion intact.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: Z-Ro. His rawness and emotional delivery align with how I mix—authentic, powerful, and unpolished in the best way.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: Don’t over-process vocals. Start clean: good takes, proper gain staging, and minimal but intentional processing will beat a plugin-heavy chain every time.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: Hip-hop (especially boom bap), R&B, pop, reggaeton, and occasionally rock or lo-fi. I’m open to any genre that values emotion and groove.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Translating an artist’s raw emotion into a polished final product without losing the soul of the track. My strength is vocal processing and mix dynamics, ensuring everything feels cohesive, clean, and competitive.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Emotion, depth, and clarity. My mixes feel alive because I understand both the technical and the emotional side of music. I don’t just balance frequencies — I shape feelings and draw out the emotions in the recording.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: It starts with understanding the client’s vision. From there, I clean and align vocals, enhance tone and dynamics, and build the perfect balance so the track feels alive. For beats or full production, I create the groove first, then layer melodies and textures. I mix with intent, not just presets—every move has a purpose.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work primarily in-the-box, which means everything is streamlined for precision, flexibility, and creativity. I believe it’s not about owning a million pieces of gear—it’s about knowing how to use what you have to make great music. That said, I do have premium tools in my arsenal: Apollo Twin interface, Slate Digital VMS mic, API 312 preamp, and a full suite of UAD, Waves, Native Instruments, iZottope, Arturia and FabFilter plugins. But at the end of the day, the real magic comes from passion and expertise, not just hardware.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Producers like Dr. Dre for precision, DJ Premier for raw authenticity, and engineers like Tony Maserati for the art of balance. Musically, I pull inspiration from Z-Ro, Joe Budden, and classic East Coast legends because they represent grit, truth, and feel—values I bring to my mixes.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I specialize in mixing and mastering for hip-hop, boom bap, R&B, and pop, but I’m versatile across genres. I also provide vocal editing (tuning, comping, cleanup), podcast/audiobook production, and full beat production. Most of my clients trust me to take their raw recordings and deliver polished, radio-ready tracks that hit with emotion and clarity.
