VAN KING on SoundBetter

An R&B and hip-hop producer based in Ontario, Canada. Having taken years to find a unique sound that others can't just steal, it's been ingrained in my entire process to find first what is necessary and then implement what is unnecessary.

I take more than thirty minutes, hell, I take more than 10 hours to make my beats and instrumentals. First of all, because I believe artists deserve better than someone who hopped on a computer for less than an hour to put together something that 100,000,000 other people could've also put together in that amount of time with minimal to no effort. Second of all, because I believe the creative process takes time and that all of your best ideas don't come flying to the forefront every time you push a button. Art takes time, and if you want art, you have to pay for it with your time and energy. I push for excellence in my art.

Although studying to become able to do this was work unto itself, having recently finished my first ever full EP production for an artist was a wake-up call that I needed to pursue production seriously as a career. Working with an artist to make their project the best that it can be is really important to my process. The tagline reads "never settle; you're worth more than that".

Lastly, I'm a recently christened recording artist, having released my first two singles on Spotify, Apple Music etc. within the last two months. Produced with the Toronto producer Aftrparty, they've been covered by XTRAWAVE, STEPKID, ELECTROWOW, STEREO STICKMAN, and JAMSPHERE. My SoundCloud set is a link to the two songs I've released (co-produced, wrote lyrics and melody).
