I have worked with Sebastian for 10 years, he is one of the most talented producers I have ever met. We have a long relationship working together, on two studio albums and multiple recordings, and his musical input as far as arrangements, textures, beat making, and overall aesthetic approach make him a one of a kind producer and has been a key element in my career and music. On top of that, and from my experience, it's always been a pleasure to work with him as a human being, he is generous in life and in the process of music making. I can't recommend him enough.

    Excelente persona y siempre respetuoso!

lo recomiendo 100% y re volvería a trabajar con él!

Interview with Sebastián de la Riega

  1. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  2. A: I will always put forth my utmost effort to reach the goals we set together.

  3. Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?

  4. A: A common misunderstanding in this profession is the notion that simply having a software and a laptop equips someone to do the job. Music production is an intricate art form that demands a thorough understanding of acoustics, harmony, instrumentation, gear... It's a holistic craft that involves much more than just the tools. It requires a blend of skill, knowledge, and creative insight.

  5. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  6. A: What does success mean to you? What are you seeking with this song / project?

  7. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  8. A: A piece of advice I'd give to an artist is to be clear about all the 'Nos' - because the 'Yeses' are there to be developed and acted upon.

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: Let the message be the protagonist. Avoid an overdose of notes and arrangements. Make sure the main focus remains on the message you want to convey.

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: My strongest skill lies in my keen sensitivity to read and understand exactly what an artist desires, coupled with a profound talent for reharmonization. I have the ability to elevate a simple melody into something far more sophisticated and refined, bringing a higher level of artistry to each song.

  13. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  14. A: I try to "dress the song" in a custom-made suit and make every inch match the artist's vision.

  15. Q: What's your typical work process?

  16. A: It involves several stages. I usually begin by understanding the artist’s vision, goals, music references and expectations. This phase often involves brainstorming ideas, themes, and the overall direction for the music. Define arrangements and the musical style. Depending on my role on the project, I may be actively involved in the songwriting or composition. This can include creating melodies, chord progressions, and even contributing to the lyrics. After that, the post production and editing process focuses on capturing the best quality sound. Selecting the best takes, editing for timing and pitch if necessary, vocal production and mix & mastering.

  17. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  18. A: Main monitors >> PMC Avantone as secondary studio monitors Protools studio Neumann U87 Preamps >> Rupert Neve Shelford Channel Taylor acoustic guitar Tom Anderson Electric Guitar Yamaha Montage 88 key Arturia Keylab Essential 49

  19. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  20. A: I feel inspired by Joni Mitchell, Prince, HER... Darkchild (Rodney Jerkins), Greg Wells, Quincy Jones, among others.

  21. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  22. A: Collaborating with artists to understand their artistic vision, musical style, and goals. Pre-production to discuss song arrangements, instrumentation, and creative direction. Creative input on different elements and working on the song structure.
