Interview with Simon Mudapakati
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My highlight track so far is Pressure by Tommy Osiris. From the moment of writing the first couple of lines I knew it was going to be something special, and the end result was exactly that.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to treat your song or idea as if it were my own. I'll work hard to tailor lyrics and melody provided to suit your style, energy, vibe etc.
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That anyone can write. Good writing is more than just words or a catchy melody. A lot of it has to do with taste and style. If you have neither, then you may have a very difficult time as an artist.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: The Weeknd or Adam Levine. Being able to write for artists with such strong and versatile voices, I'm sure only good things would come out of it.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: All kinds of pop, but love to venture into rap, rock and pop as they're all quite similar from a storytelling perspective.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Taste. My greatest skill is being able to tell what sounds good and what doesn't. I also
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Passion, quality, and excruciating attention to detail. A misplaced word or syllable can sour the mood of a happy song.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Usually I find a feeling that I'm feeling, and meditate on it before letting it all out on paper. I usually write most of the lyrics first before focusing on melody. After the rough lyrics are written I'll drop the instrumental into a DAW and freestyle the topline from start to finish. I'll then revise the melody and finalize the lyrics. Afterwards I call in a vocalist to trace over my topline so the artist receives a professional and clear sound.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: Lana Del Rey! Her poetic songwriting and dark imagery inspire me to be both authentic and detailed in my work. I also love The Weeknd, SZA and Maggie Rogers as their writing work is always amazing. Sonically, I have a lot of respect for Tiesto and the consistency in the sound he is able to create.

A: Writing lyrics and melodies that capture the mood, story or feeling that the artist is trying to express.
