Jesper Österberg

Rock mixer and producer

Jesper Österberg on SoundBetter

You got music? I've got the sound.

Jesper Österberg is an audio engineer and mix technician from Sweden. Behind the faders you’ll find an aspiring producer with an ear for good sound. At age 10 I picked up the guitar and four years later started recording bands. This culminated in a love for sound.

Focus has been around rock, punk and metal recordings. This has helped me develop a sense of which sounds are going to mash together nicely in the final mix. With a desire for experimental type recording, you’ll be sure to find your unique voice.

With a background as a lead singer and guitar player in a rock band I know what it feels like to be in the music. Now we only need to convey that to the listener. That's where I come in.

I will mix your rock song so that it has power and punch yet feels organic. You'll need to provide me with one or several reference tracks that gives me a sense of what your looking for. We can make your track compete with mainstream rock or go for that 70's revival. It's up to you.

I offer the following services:
Editing (vocal time alignment and pitch correction / drum tightening)
Mixing
Mastering for streaming or CD

Interview with Jesper Österberg

  1. Q: What's your typical work process?

  2. A: My mix process starts with organizing the session. Tracks are color-coded and given names that I understand. Then there is cleaning in the audio files if needed. I check phase conditions and hide tracks that I will not use. If necessary, I edit things. When all this is done, I start mixing. The mix process itself is deeply dependent on what kind of song it is and therefore I can not explain what the process looks like. Finally, I send the mix to the client when I feel satisfied. Then the client comes with his or hers comments which I then adjust according to.

  3. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  4. A: Right now I'm located at a small mixing room in Stockholm. The room is filled with acoustic treatment so it gets pretty hot in here. The small size aside, I'm very happy with the current setup and I feel confident in my mix decisions.

  5. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  6. A: My biggest source of inspiration comes from The Blasting Room Studios. The productions that come out of there sound absolutely fantastic. The story of how the studio came to be is also inspiring. Their work ethic is something I try to live up to.

  7. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  8. A: I mostly do mixing jobs for clients. This way I can work with people overseas. For local acts I produce and engineer records aswell.
