Welcome to my own hi-end professional recording and mixing studio !!!

Hi My name is David, sound engineer with a full diploma from France and more than 15 years of experience in the music industry as a recording and mixing engineer.
I am also playing music from the age of 5, I learned piano and cello at the music academy in south France for more than 10 years, today I am playing and recording drums for myself and clients.
Working in my personal professional mixing room, my equipment is based around my protools and universal audio Apollo x system. However I'm using the best of both world, mixing with plug-ins, hi-end analog outboard and analog summing mixer.

Click the 'Contact' above to get in touch. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Interview with davidj mixing

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I worked on an album for more than 2 years, from scratch to mastering. At the beginning my role was just the tech guy but gradually in worked also as a producer. When we finished all the recordings and editings, I started the mixing. I sent the songs one by one and most of the time the answer was: "perfect, don't touch it".

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: both, digital is quick and easy, you can recall sessions years after and you're not losing anything but you can't replace the hi-end analog outboard gear so I'm using the best both of the worlds.

  5. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  6. A: it's sad but usually, the first question is about pricing. My answer is, "if you want to drive a Ferrari you can't buy one for the price of a ford fiesta"

  7. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  8. A: as a musician, I started at the age of 5 with piano and cello at the music academy in france. I won some national contests (piano) at the age of 12. One year after I left the cello to play drums until today. Soon I started to record song with my first band using whatever I could find ;-) At the age of 19 I start to learn sound engineering in France and I opened my first home studio quickly. Since that time I am upgrading my studio and almost 10 years ago I opened my commerciial recording/mixing studio

  9. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  10. A: less is more !!!!

  11. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  12. A: the experience and my knowledge as an recording/mixing engineer but also as a musician.

  13. Q: What's your typical work process?

  14. A: first, on a recording session, I like to get to the studio few hours before the musicians, first to get eveything ready and to be sure that everything is working properly. It's very important for the musicians to see that the staff at the the studio is calm, so you can focus yourself on the sound and the work with people instead of resolving technical issues. I like to take one ore two days between the recording session and the mixing, to come to the studio with fresh ears !!!

  15. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  16. A: the studio is based around a protools HD rig and an icon d-control. we have a lot of different microphones and preamps to find the best match for your needs

  17. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  18. A: Usually people are coming to our studio because few reasons, first the reputation of the place and the people working at. Second our high end equipment in the studio, from instruments, microphones to hi-end analog equipment and monitoring. finally, the size of the studio, 1 large room, 2 medium recording booth and a nice and large control room. So you can record until 7 people live.
