Mike Morris on SoundBetter

I am a passionate producer, mix engineer, and session guitarist.

I am an audio engineer and musician based out of Eugene, Oregon. I have been producing for 5 years, and been mixing and mastering for a couple years. I am also and guitar player, and songwriter, and have been doing that for years as well. If you want to find out quickly what my skill levels are in these areas then just play the songs attached as .mp3's. I wrote, played, recorded, produced, and mixed them myself in their entirety.

IMPORTANT: When mixing a project I always bounce the project and listen on several systems. This is so I get the mix down in the context of different rigs. ALSO, with that being said, I can cater my mix to one of these systems. So if you have a preference on where your music will be played/listened to, then I can prep it for that. Here is the list systems I have access too:
- My tuned monitors (with and without my sub)
- Another professional studio setup
- Small PA: 2x QSC K10's
- Mid Size PA: 2x QSC 153 & 2x QSC 181
- Tour PA: LAcoustics Line Away, Flown subs for mids, and 4 double 22 Subs in concrete bunkers, this room is professionally tuned, always meets "riders" for tours coming through.
- Mid quality car system
- High end car system
- Various Headphones
- Phone speakers

Interview with Mike Morris

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I have released my own music on all major platforms. If you search "Mike Morris" on Spotify you will find my "Living The Dream" EP. I wrote, recorded, produced, and mixed everything on those 3 songs. So with that said, if you are looking to find out what I sound like as an artist, or just my skill level of mixing, production, writing, and playing my instruments, then that's the perfect place to start.

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm producing an indie reggae record, orchestral single, modern rock record, singer/songwriter single, and country ep.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: What ever will get the best end product. Period. No ego or pride will get in the way of the final product.

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I promise that I will do my absolute best to get you exactly what you are looking for. Even if that means I am doing several revisions. If you don't make your client happy, then you can't be in this industry.

  9. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  10. A: I would like to work with Jon Bellion. My music is super different than his, but the way our brains think and process stuff is nearly identical. Plus his energy in the studio is super positive and the sessions he's in are always a great environment.

  11. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  12. A: Demo fever is real! Don't settle for something that was recorded as a temporary placeholder. Consciously tell yourself that you will re record that part when the time comes. It is way too easy to start to like something that you are consistently hearing when working on the rest of the song; even if it doesn't sound amazing.
