Interview with Andy Dular
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: I started as a teenager singing in bars, I was on Chilean television for a year in prime time singing on a reality show called Fama Contrafama, I worked with great Argentine musicians, Fernando Scarsella, Pablo Motizack, Ariel Colla, Cae, Cucho Parisi, Lissa and Lourdes from Bandana, and many more, I've been doing this for over 25 years
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: varied
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: With Bruno Mars, because I think he has a huge musical mind from which you can learn a lot; I always like to work with people who are well-known in the industry, in fact I worked with Vicentico and Mon Laferte, great references in Latin music
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: To work on the nuances and movements of sound in a song, you have to know what you really want in order to be able to convey it, and that is work, a process, from which great songs or great performances are born.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: I work with rock music daily, but as a vocal technique teacher, I work with various genres.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: What i do
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I offer the human warmth of fully feeling what I am singing or playing; the client takes away a unique piece, with soul, with a life of its own.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: The first thing I do is listen to what the client asks me to do. I record several takes, around 5 or 6 for each voice, and I select which take has the best warmth, textures, and range. I choose 2 takes and send them to the client so they can choose which one they prefer or what adjustments they would like to make.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I have a home studio, I record with a Behringer C3 condenser microphone, an M-Audio M-Track Solo audio interface, Yamaha monitors, and an Asus laptop.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: I'm inspired by great voices and great songs. I prefer rock, but I can listen to and make any kind of music. Bands like Queen and The Beatles really influenced me musically.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: I record vocals and create harmonies for choirs and backing vocals.
