Interview with Clear Cut Audio-Matt Radlauer
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: YES!
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: I promise to be a professional, and to be connected and focused on your project.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: I love recording sound.. The challenges of being at different locations and getting the best possible tracks that I can given my circumstances..which are not always ideal. I also like meeting new clients (sometimes daily).
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: The biggest misconception about Production Audio is when people say "Oh you are the guy that holds the Boom Mic". While this is a true statement there is far more to the task of recording audio on set than simply holding the boom mic. Just being a Boom Operator is a its own separate skill...Some of the greatest shows and movies are recorded with only Boom Mics.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: My biggest asset is knowing what needs to be done on set or on a shoot. Being adept at the skill of recording audio in just about any situation is something that I pride myself on. I like to do things the right way.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: While I am not studio based, my equipment setup can range from extremely elaborate to very simple and quick. It all depends on what the needs are of the client. My Production Sound Cart features a Cooper CS106+1 Mixer with Sound Devices Recorders and Lectrosonics wireless. My "Run N Gun" Setup features a Sound Devices Mixer and Lectrosonic Wireless. I have an array of microphones from Schoeps to Sennheiser and Sanken.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: The most common type of work that I do is on-set sound recording and mixing for Television, Film and Video.
