I can bring your song to a professional, commercial level on a musician friendly budget. My strength is being able to hear the final version from the start. I work with clients who bring me song ideas on acoustic or even phone memos and want full compositions. I'll play guitar, bass, drums, keys, back up vocals, mix, and master. Let's make music!
My name is Cotee. I'm a audio engineer, multi instrumentalist, music teacher. I take a great deal of pride in exceeding the expectations of my clients. Wether you're hiring me to mix and master or play instruments on your productions, I'll always make sure we get to that magical place in the end. I have created almost every type of production and played instruments in all kinds of genres. From old school country to progressive metal to experimental hip hop. No type of music intimidates me. One of my greatest strengths as a musician has always been "playing to the part." Regardless of your genre, I can hone in on the appropriate characteristics to bring that special vibe to your production. I take the same mindset with mixing and mastering. Are you an indie artist looking for a clean, subtle mix that brings a delicate composition to life? Are you a garage rock band looking to have that controlled chaos you create translate to a set of speakers? I will make sure your artistic vision is never compromised.

check_circleVerified (Client)Working with Cotee was fantastic! We had great communication and were able to achieve a great end-result together. Looking forward to our next collaboration!

No matter what style of song I throw at Cotee, he's able to create the perfect track. He's a multi-instrumentalist with an incredible ear for music. His songwriting and collaboration skills are on point. He makes helpful suggestions with composition, lyrics, harmonies, vocals, and more. He has excellent producer qualities worthy of winning awards, such as attention to detail, clear communication, and understanding. He's also super patient when my diva mode is activated. He's made my pop star dreams come true. I can't recommend him enough.

I could not recommend anyone more highly. It is no exaggeration to say Cotee has helped me achieved my musical dreams and then things I didn’t even know I was looking for.
I’ve brought him demos and song ideas, and he has guided me start to finish with amazing results. His recording, mixing, mastering instincts are on another level. A gifted human, and I can’t think of anyone better to trust for engineering skills and beyond !

Cotee is incredible. I’ve worked with him on a number of songs, where he’s done work on drums, guitar, bass, slide guitar, keys, as well as arrangement, mixing and engineering. He is professional and patient and happy to collaborate on anything you throw at him. I look forward to continuing to work with him on my music. .

Cotee is the absolute best! It took me years to find someone I trusted with my music to put together my tracks and I couldn’t be happier with the product and the friendship!
Interview with Stoked & Broke Studios
Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?
A: My own solo Progressive metal E.P. It was the hardest thing to do because I could only ever work on it for a couple of hours at the end of work days. So getting 20+ minutes of material that you play/produce/record/mix everything on while working on so many other styles of music was really hard to see through to the end.
Q: What are you working on at the moment?
A: A Rap song for an artist that requested a dark, borderline spooky style. With hard hitting bass.
Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?
A: Joseph freeman - For Mastering. I've worked with him on multiple productions and I trust him.
Q: Analog or digital and why?
A: Be the best with what you have access to.
Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?
A: To be stoked and not to be broke.
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: It revolves around music.
Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
A: Can I get a demo of the chorus? Answer: No
Q: What's the biggest misconception about what you do?
A: That I take a bigger artist job more seriously. Everyone gets my 100%.
Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?
A: Production goals. Mix references. Vibes. Any guiding info that can give me insight to what they want to hear.
Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A: Get stoked. You're finally going to be happy with a finished product.
Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?
A: Computer, interface, microphone, guitar, Electric drumset.
Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?
A: Played my first show at 14. Got signed at 18. Got a taste of recording around that time and slowly started growing my skills in recording, mixing, guitar, bass, drums, vocals. It's been a long patient road.
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Stoked.
Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?
A: King's X, Zach Brown Band, Paramore, Periphery, Dirty Loops. These are all versatile top level artist that have very little in the way of what they are capable of.
Q: Can you share one music production tip?
A: When something gives you chills, understand why and only highlight that.
Q: What type of music do you usually work on?
A: No particular type.
Q: What's your strongest skill?
A: Adaptability and vision for the production regardless of style or genre.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: Outside of being a producer, a multi instrumentalist, and a mixing engineer, I can be as creative as someones project needs, filling in all the gaps for them. I can also completely understand my role and stay out of the way, only doing exactly what the song asks for to be perfect.
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: Layout the song. Try and envision the production. Start building layers and ideas with multiple instruments. Bring life to it all in the mixing stage.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I live in it. As I write this I can see 6 electric guitars, 2 basses, and an acoustic hanging on the wall. I've got 2 studio monitors and 4 pairs of reference headphones next to me. A vocal booth built into the living room and a drumset within reach.
Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?
A: All of the "Shapeshifters" The guys and girls who either play on all types of music or mix all types of music. I want to be someone who can be trusted to write and record for clients regardless of genre.
Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.
A: Most of my Clients are solo artist that need help bringing a stripped down song idea to a full scale production level. This often involves writing and recording multiple instruments for them and mixing/mastering there song.

I was the Mixing Engineer on every song in the clip as well as the guitarist, bassist, drummer, producer for over 90% of what you hear in this production
