Interview with FrankCB

  1. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  2. A: UAD Apollo x8p, Focusrite Scarlett 18i20. UAD Sphere DLX, Lewitt 440 Pure, Aston Origin, Audio Technica AT2020, Shure SM57, AKG D112, Audix FP, SE Electronics X1 S, Subkick mic.

  3. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  4. A: My relationship with clients is based on reliability and trustworthiness. I will always be open-minded about suggestions and they will always be free to contact me for any reviews or modifications to my work.

  5. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  6. A: Listening to music, focusing on each instrument that is present in the song. The drum must not override other instruments or the voice. Less is more.

  7. Q: What's your typical work process?

  8. A: First of all, I listen to a song several times. Then I try focusing the more suitable drum track in my head. Then I move to the kit trying different options and sounds. When I feel that I'm moving in the right way I start recording the track. Usually, I record the track 2/3 times then I listen back and choose the right one. When I've decided on the right track the mixing process begins. At the end of the day, the track is ready to be delivered at the client.

  9. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  10. A: My purpose is to provide the more suitable drum track with the best sound that fits perfectly with the track of my client. I've been studying for 16 years to improve my session skills. During this time I've worked for many artists and I managed to meet their needs, that is my main goal.

  11. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  12. A: I'd like working with artists like Snarky Puppy, Sting, or Chick Corea. It would be one of the biggest dreams of my life. Never say never :)

  13. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  14. A: As a drummer, I've been inspired by many people during these years, but if I have to write some names I'll say that my main sources of inspiration are Steve Gadd, Vinnie Colaiuta, Nate Smith, and Larnell Lewis. Those guys have changed literally the concept of "drum".

  15. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  16. A: Snare, HH, a ride, and a drum bass. I just need 4.
