Maria Triana on SoundBetter

Bob Dylan. Miles Davis. Whitney Houston. Aretha Franklin. Grammy award winning records. 20+ years. Hundreds of records and still obsessed with sound.

I spent 16 years as a mastering engineer at Sony Music, working alongside some of the best engineers in the business. Along the way I also worked on preserving the Metropolitan Opera of New York and Jazz at Lincoln Center catalogues, the kind of work that reminds you of the importance of leaving a legacy.

I bring that same care to every project that comes my way. Before I touch your mix, I want to understand it, what you're going for, what you're hearing, what matters to you. Mastering is about finding the identity that's already in your music and helping it land the way you intended.

I work in both analog and digital, do editing, restoration and Dolby Atmos, and genuinely love talking through the process if you have questions.

Would love to hear from you. Click the contact button above to get in touch.

Once again, Maria Triana has hit a home run with the art of mastering. I am in awe and shock at how amazing the song that I submitted to Maria now sounds. I knew that Maria was going to do her 'magic' on this track but the end result is beyond my wildest dreams! I am so very thankful for her and what she brings to the table. Maria's work on the submitted tracks was superb. The result is excellent; a wonderfully balanced and rounded sound that both reflects the reference while accounting for the peculiarities and feel of the tracks in question. Maria is also a pleasure to deal with; I would highly recommend her services.

Maria did an absolutely fantastic job mastering Wildflowers. She brought out the warmth, clarity and emotional depth of the track while keeping its dynamics and organic character fully intact. Interview with Maria Triana

  1. Q: Is there anyone on SoundBetter you know and would recommend to your clients?

  2. A: I love the camaraderie I have with Marco Spaventi. He is a fantastic engineer. I'm happy to give engineer referrals according to the music style.

  3. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  4. A: I like to use both. I think they complement each other well. The color and naturality you achieve from using analog plus the flexibility and how surgically you can get when using Digital.

  5. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  6. A: I love to explore and find that unique sound each artist has, to find how I can enhance their voice and their identity through their music.

  7. Q: What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?

  8. A: They mostly want to know about the signal processing I used on their songs. I love talking about audio, I teach audio and enjoy sharing what I do. I believe we can all grow and learn from each other.

  9. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  10. A: I think it is important to know your clients. I ask for musical references. I want to know their musical taste. Music speaks for itself. Listening to what they're listening to and then to the source I will master gives me an idea of what sonic imprint I should work on.

  11. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  12. A: I have been a mastering engineer for over 20 years. I started as a general assistant at Sony Music Studios. Through learning and experience, I earned the trust of other mastering engineers and became their assistant. I was fortunate to assist and learn from some of the best mastering engineers, who I have always admired. Little by little that led me to become a mastering engineer.
