Session Drummer

David Lowe on SoundBetter

I’ll provide you with the exact groove & feel your song needs!

I've been playing for over 40 years. I'm well versed in all styles and specialize in Funk/Hip-Hop/ and Pop. Groove is the most important thing for any song. My goal is to always play what the song needs. I've played in numerous show bands, wedding bands, toured and have taught for many years. I'm a confident, self-taught drummer who eventually went on to earn his Bachelor's of Music from Toronto's Humber College. I combine my natural musical abilities with my formal training to record exactly the type of groove and feel you need.

Interview with David Lowe

  1. Q: Tell us about a project you worked on you are especially proud of and why. What was your role?

  2. A: I'm especially proud of some work I recorded late last year as I wrote the music, performed on it, recorded, mixed and co-produced on. Always a great feeling to hear your work come to life!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I’m currently working on a Jazz hip hop piece

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Digital because it’s a little easier to work with

  7. Q: What's your 'promise' to your clients?

  8. A: I will be sure to give you exactly what you want. I’m not happy until you are

  9. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  10. A: Being a session drummer I get to use my skills that I’ve worked on but every song is a new challenge

  11. Q: What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?

  12. A: Be very sure of what you want and communicate effectively

  13. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  14. A: My sticks, my snare, my computer and an SM57!

  15. Q: What was your career path? How long have you been doing this?

  16. A: I’ve been playing drums for over 40 years. I divide my time up between teaching and composing for media

  17. Q: How would you describe your style?

  18. A: Laidback and funky

  19. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  20. A: I’d love to work with Alicia Keys if I could. I love the way she works live!

  21. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  22. A: Perhaps the most important thing I’ve learned from working in the studio is: get it right at the source. It makes things much easier and reduces mixing time!

  23. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  24. A: I work on many styles but I usually get asked to record RnB tracks

  25. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  26. A: My strongest skill is my ability to play for the song and not overplay.

  27. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  28. A: When I track a song, groove and pocket is the most important element. I’ll provide that element that only a live drummer can bring.

  29. Q: What's your typical work process?

  30. A: I create a part that supports your piece; shots, break-downs or builds etc. Mix it from drummers perspective, and adjust levels to what you would like best Provide raw stems of the entire kit for you to mix to your exact tastes, as well as an mp3 stereo mixed version

  31. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  32. A: My most popular requests are for my pop/RnB feel on tracks
