Daniel Ori on SoundBetter

Dedicated to the art of groove. I provide quality tasteful bass tracks. I'm looking forward to hearing your music and being a part of your project.

Hey! I'm Daniel Ori, a New York based professional bass player (electric and upright) and music producer with 20 years of experience, and credits on dozens of records in the Jazz and World music genres, as well as folk and pop singer songwriters. I've recorded bass and produced music for TV, Radio, Mobile Apps, Theatre and more.

I love the freedom of creating bass lines for compositions, but equally enjoy reading down any form of sheet music, written notes, chord chart or transcribe your ideas by ear. Whatever it is, I'm committed to make your recording sound amazing.

I'm a great communicator, dedicated to the art of groove, and will keep working on your recording until you are happy with it! For the greatest results, check out my questions before sending your guide track. This really helps to smoothen the process.

Daniel receives my highest recommendation! He is a triple threat (at least) on acoustic, electric, and ghembri, and he has a vast stylistic range and outstanding musicianship. He will enhance any project you have in mind!

Interview with Daniel Ori

  1. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  2. A: Do you have any references in mind, in terms of how you'd like the song or bass track to sound? Is there any specific melody or notes that you're hearing me play? You can sing them, notate or play them for me.

  3. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  4. A: My basses, an acoustic guitar and a small keyboard. But wait, I might need percussion and some horns..this is hard ; )

  5. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  6. A: Pop, Folk, Singer songwriter, Traditional and Modern Jazz, World Music (Middle Eastern, Balkan, Moroccan, Latin).

  7. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  8. A: Communication skills and the deep care I put into my craft.

  9. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  10. A: A great feel for what works well in a song. What makes it groove and elevate.

  11. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  12. A: I work on logic using the Waves Platinum plugin suite and MOTU DAW and Mac setup. For my upright bass, I have an isolated warm sounding booth, and usually use an Electro Voice RE 20 or a Shure NT1A, going through a tube preamp. For the electric, I use a WTDI and a tube preamp. I also have a variety of bass amps which I can mic (Epiphani, Eden, Acoustic Image, GK).

  13. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  14. A: I spend my time evenly bouncing between electric and upright bass recordings. I'm lucky to have this balance which keeps me on the edge of my chops on both instruments, which is important to me. The rest of my time is taken up by production of songs and music for various projects I'm involved in.
