Interview with Zakk Giordano

  1. Q: What do you like most about your job?

  2. A: Freedom, music creation has never felt like work. I love that I get to do this and can't imagine a world where I'm doing anything else!

  3. Q: What are you working on at the moment?

  4. A: I'm working on a film score as well as three singles for an artist who is planning to do full release campaigns for each one individually.

  5. Q: Analog or digital and why?

  6. A: Digital, its all I've ever known but its so user friendly and allows people a freedom to create and express themselves on any budget.

  7. Q: What questions do you ask prospective clients?

  8. A: What is you goal for this project? Is there a vision you already have in mind and how do you plan for us to achieve that?

  9. Q: If you were on a desert island and could take just 5 pieces of gear, what would they be?

  10. A: Easy! - Macbook Pro - Fender American Professional II Stratocaster - Akai Professional MPK mini MKII - Apollo Twin - Slate Digital VMS ML-1 - Slate

  11. Q: How would you describe your style?

  12. A: Pop, but with an edge. Love when pop music can be catchy but have a dark serious side.

  13. Q: Which artist would you like to work with and why?

  14. A: Ryan Tedder or Jon Bellion, I feel like what i could learn in one session with them would change my entire life.

  15. Q: Can you share one music production tip?

  16. A: My biggest music production tip would be to be OBSESSED with music. It is all about how much you learn, and how much experience you can accumulate. Constatnly create, immerse yourself in it and it will always click for you.

  17. Q: What type of music do you usually work on?

  18. A: Mainly pop music, but I've been in a pop/rock band with full drums and guitars so I do have al lot of experience producing and mixing bands as well.

  19. Q: What's your strongest skill?

  20. A: Songwriting is definitely my strongest skill, but I'm also an experienced singer. I only started producing a few years ago but I've learned so much so quickly and found a real passion in putting together songs from start to finish all on my own.

  21. Q: What do you bring to a song?

  22. A: I bring my enthusiasm, and my own little artistic flavor when I can. When I really vibe with a song and an artist allows me to I love to sprinkle my own style here and there.

  23. Q: What's your typical work process?

  24. A: I love to grab a coffee and go for a walk while I listen to an artists demo. Once I've got a good grasp on overall vibe I'll talk with the the artist and work through all of our ideas together. Then it is into the DAW I go where ill build the track out, communicating with the artist through very section of the song.

  25. Q: Tell us about your studio setup.

  26. A: I work out of a relatively small home studio, but don't be fooled... I've been working to acquire all of the latest software and sample libraries, as well as the training it takes to use it. I work through Logic Pro X (Macbook Pro) and record into an Apollo Twin.

  27. Q: What other musicians or music production professionals inspire you?

  28. A: Artistically, I've always been so inspired by Ryan Tedder. His song writing ability is literally one in a billion. Jon Bellion is my go to when it comes to production, he always ahs a way of thinking out of the box. I'm also very inspired by Jordan of The Ready Set and Austin hull as well!

  29. Q: Describe the most common type of work you do for your clients.

  30. A: Most commonly, I've been doing full production with my clients. Taking their songs, whether it be a voice memo, or a full demo, and bringing it to the next level. Giving them a commercially ready product that they are proud of is my absolute number one priority!
