Mike has contributed his guitar talents to numerous Grammy winning/nominated albums. As a session guitarist, he has worked with Luke Bryan (Capital), Francesca Battistelli (Curb), Teddy Robb (Sony) and many others. In 2015 he worked with Lauren Daigle on her debut platinum (RIAA) selling album "How Can It Be."
In addition to working on a multitude of major label and independent releases, he has also worked in the world of TV including Grammy Awards telecast performance (featuring Maren Morris and Lucas Graham), Golden Globe Awards and the hit ABC TV show “Nashville.”
Mike works from his studio in Nashville, TN. “My ability to layer interesting sounds and parts to compliment the song is perhaps my greatest strength. I'd love the opportunity to collaborate with you on your upcoming project.” Genres Mike enjoys working on include pop, rock, modern country and indie. Interview with Mike Payne
Q: What's your typical work process?
A: I start with getting as many details as possible from the client for their vision of the song. I like to have a reference or two to get in the right headspace. Then I move to session prep and create a lead chart. I then listen to the song and make notes and begin recording.
Q: What do you bring to a song?
A: I bring creative sounds and good instincts for choosing the right parts for the song.
Q: Tell us about your studio setup.
A: I work in an inspiring mid-century space with vaulted ceilings. I try to keep things as organized as possible for efficient work flow. Gear wise I am currently using Pro Tools, Apogee conversion, UA,Burl, Chandler pre's and EQ,and an assortment of microphones.
